MOFA strongly condemns PRC again for engaging in unilateral, provocative actions that raise tensions in South China Sea & region!
MOFA condemns in the strongest possible terms the so-called “combat readiness patrols” that the PRC’s People’s Liberation Army conducted on September 2 in airspace and waters near Minzhu Reef. The PRC’s actions interfered with routine operations of other countries’ vessels and aircraft and were therefore dangerous, irresponsible, and highly provocative.
MOFA has consistently opposed unilateral and illegal efforts by any side in the South China Sea aimed at power expansion, including gray-zone coercion, militarization, and any other behavior that undermines peace. It calls on the PRC to abide by international law, uphold the principle of peaceful dispute settlement, and respect the common desire of countries in the region for peace and stability.
Taiwan will continue to cooperate with like-minded countries and regional partners to jointly safeguard peace and stability in the South China Sea, protect freedom of navigation and overflight, and ensure a free, open, peaceful, and stable international order.

As September arrives, the Southern Hemisphere is preparing to welcome the season of spring blossoms. With the annual Mid-Autumn Festival fast approaching, we would like to wish everyone a joyful reunion with loved ones under the full moon.

Organized by the New Zealand Taiwanese Women's Association—and supported by the New Zealand Taiwan Huaxia Association, the New Zealand Taiwan Business Association, the New Zealand Chapter of the Global Federation of Chinese Business Women, the New Zealand Veterans Association, the New Zealand Chung Hwa Women's Association, the New Zealand Chinese Business and Trade Association, the Taiwanese Hwa-hsia Society of New Zealand, the New Zealand Taiwan Hakka Association, and the TCML-Qiyuan Education Center—the first Mid-Autumn Festival event of the year was successfully held last weekend at the Hwa-hsia Centre. Director-General Lin of this office was invited to deliver a speech on "Multiculturalism and International Etiquette," sharing practical insights on cross-cultural communication and international protocol gained over his 30-year diplomatic career.

Despite the rainy weather, the event drew an enthusiastic turnout of over 120 participants—including honorary overseas community figures based in Auckland, presidents and board members of Taiwanese community associations, expatriates active in various fields, Taiwanese students, and staff from this office and their families. The venue was packed, and the atmosphere was lively.

During the approximately 90-minute lecture, D-G Lin covered five key areas—international etiquette, dining etiquette, attire, transportation etiquette, and social etiquette. He explained these topics clearly using real-life examples, complemented by engaging interactive activities and a prize-winning quiz. The content was practical and accessible; attendees listened intently, taking notes and photos, and participated eagerly in the Q&A session, which was characterized by a relaxed and fun atmosphere. At the conclusion of the event, DG and Mrs. Lin posed for a group photo with the attendees. Notably, a few number of Taiwanese students attended as well, seeking advice from and openly interacting with senior members of the community. This demonstrated the significant value of generational continuity within the Taiwanese community and is highly commendable.

The organizers and co-organizers thoughtfully prepared mooncakes and refreshments, allowing the community members in attendance to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival early amidst an exchange of diverse cultures and international etiquette. The event was a resounding success, and we extend our sincere gratitude to the members of the ten Taiwanese community associations, honorary overseas community figures, Taiwanese students, all the community members who were present, and the team of volunteers working behind the scenes.
