Preparation for future success! This year, under the guidance of Whaea Aroha, Year 13 tauira attended weekly sessions with current University of Auckland students as part of the MATES (Mentoring and Tutoring Education Scheme) programme. Last week, these students graduated from the programme and celebrated with whānau in an evening which included performances by each of the participating schools. Well done to everyone involved for taking steps to a bright future!

Note-worthy performances! Last week our Year 13 music students performed at their final music evening. This was the end of an era for our talented young musicians after five years of hard work and dedicated effort. Some highlights of the evening were beautiful renditions of Brian McKnight's One Last Cry, Alicia Keys If I Ain't Got You, and a wide range of energetic drum performances. Well done to everyone involved. We look forward to hearing about your future musical endeavours!

Our new pou representing our foundational values, Te Tūāpapa o Panuku and the local iwi mana whenua we acknowledge have been installed, and they look stunning.

Our kaiako gathered this morning for a beautiful karakia to bless these pou and honour what they represent. For our staff, tauira, and whānau, these pou stand as a daily reference to our core values, our heritage, and our pedagogy at Henderson High School.

Congratulations to the 30 students from Years 11-13 who completed the Auckland Transport Learner Licence course during the school holidays. Over three days, students learned road code theory, practised test questions, and prepared for their learner licence assessment. VTNZ then came to Henderson High School, where all 30 students sat and passed their Learner Licence test.

This is an outstanding achievement and a fantastic step towards greater independence and future employment opportunities, nice work students!

It was a night to remember! Our school hall was packed to the brim with supporters who came to experience the “Rhythms of India” which was a fantastic celebration. Bollywood performances captured the vibrant culture through dance and embodied our school value of Kotahitanga - we are unique and united, and we celebrate our diverse community.

Thank you to the students and staff who were involved in making this event a special one!

Our sporting superstars were in the spotlight last night at our Sports Prizegiving. This annual event is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the talented individuals and teams who have enjoyed sporting success during the school year.
A huge thank you to all the whānau who came along in support of our students. Well done to all our award recipients, and a massive shout-out to all our coaches and managers for your dedication and commitment to our sports programme at Henderson High School. Thanks also to Mrs Tyler Ta'ala, Mr Carl Webster, and the PE team who ensured the event was a huge success.

Special congratulations to Luke Karena, Dux Ludorum for 2026, our highest sporting honour!

Mā te kaha o te mahi i roto i te mātauranga, ka whakawhiwhia.
It is through hard work and knowledge that we will achieve.
