📢 BBI Weekly Update: Attendance, Eid Mubarak, & Important Year 8 Notices! 🌟

Kia ora whānau and carers of Blockhouse Bay Intermediate!

Here is a look back at our attendance from last week (Term 2, Week 6) and some vital notices for our Year 8 families as we start looking toward high school transition.

📊 Last Week's Attendance Breakdown
Our school-wide attendance finished up at 89.7%.

🌙 Eid Mubarak: A big shout out to all of our Muslim families who celebrated Eid last Thursday! We hope you had a wonderful, blessed day of celebration, food, and family time.

🎓 Important Notices for Year 8 Parents & Whānau
High school transitions are officially underway! Please take note of these two important updates:

Lynfield College Visit This Week! 🏫
Representatives from Lynfield College will be visiting BBI this Thursday for a special promotion assembly. This is a fantastic opportunity for our Year 8 students to get a taste of what lies ahead next year.

High School Enrolments & Mid-Year Reports 📝
Many high schools have now opened their enrolment portals for 2027. While you are welcome to start filling out these applications, please note that high schools require a mid-year report. * BBI mid-year reports will be sent out to families during the last week of this term.

What to do: You can either wait until the last week of term to submit your application, or submit the application now and send the report through to the respective high school as soon as it arrives in your inbox.

Thank you for your continued support in getting our tamariki to school every day. Let's have a fantastic Week 7!

Dear Parents and Whānau,

We have a couple of important scheduling and attendance reminders for this week. Please take a moment to review the details below.

🚫 Friday, 29th May: School Closed (Teacher Only Day)
School will be closed for all students on Friday, 29th May as our staff will be participating in a scheduled Teacher Only Day. Please ensure you have alternative childcare arrangements in place for this day.

🌙 Thursday, 28th May: Eid al-Adha Attendance Info
We want to wish a very happy upcoming Eid to all of our Muslim families! If you are planning to keep your child(ren) home on Thursday, 28th May to celebrate, please note our attendance policy below so we can code their absence correctly:

Let us know in advance: If you notify the school office before Thursday, your child’s absence will be recorded as J (Justified Absence).

If you do not notify us in advance: If your child is absent without prior notice, the absence must legally be recorded as E (Explained but Unjustified).

How to notify us: Please call the school office, reply to this email, or use the school app by Wednesday, 27th May to let us know if your child will be celebrating at home.

Thank you for your cooperation and helping us keep our attendance records accurate. Have a wonderful weekend ahead!

Look at these amazing canapes! The Whanau Totara Year 8s cooked and presented their Masterchef canapes today and what a treat they were. They had to create a 'Showstopper' finger food that met a few criteria. These bite sized morsels were so tasty!

Weekly Attendance Update: Term 2, Week 3 📈

Weekly Average: 94% (Target Achieved! ✅)

Top Whānau Attendnance at Cross country: Rimu (Enjoyed their casual clothes day on Friday! 🏆)

Area for Growth: Lateness.

We are seeing a spike in late arrivals due to "sleeping in" (60+ instances). Remember, to earn an Attendance Star, students need to keep their lateness under 10%.

Let’s work together to get our tamariki here on time so they can start their day with their mates and teachers!

Attendance is Manaakitanga - showing respect for our learning time. 🤝

Congratulations to Whanau Rimu who won the casual clothes day for having the best attendance at the cross country today with 95.4%. They were closely followed by Whanau Totara and Whanau Miro who both had 93.8%. A huge effort by everyone and we are all so proud of all the students. Results will come later once they have been calculated.

Kia ora whanau!

What a massive week for attendance! We absolutely smashed it, hitting a weekly average of 94.6%. A huge shout-out for Thursday, which was our 2nd best day of the entire year at 96.6%! Let’s keep that momentum rolling.

🏃‍♂️ Cross-Country this Wednesday!
The kids have been training hard since last term, and it’s finally time for Cross-Country this Wednesday. We know that for some, the challenge is physical, but for others, it’s a big mental hurdle. We’re here to support every student in crossing that finish line!

Win a Casual Clothes Day: The Whanau with the best attendance on Wednesday wins the second casual clothes day of the year!

Show Your Colours: Students are encouraged to wear their Whanau colours all day long.

🧥 Staying Warm
With the mornings getting a bit crisp, please make sure the kids are dressed for the cooler weather. If you need a hand with gear, we have a huge range of second-hand uniforms available at the office - just pop in and see us.

🎯 The Big Goal
Just a friendly reminder that our goal is 90% attendance for every student (which is the same as the Ministry of Education target). If your child hits that 90% mark and keeps lateness under 10%, they’ll snag an Attendance Star at the end of the year!

Thanks for all your support in getting the kids to school on time and ready to go. See you out there on the track Wednesday!
