Ranui 135 is a grassroots Indigenous Founder led Youth Trust based in the heart of the Rānui community. Formed in 2002 in response to challenges in the area at the time that showed Ranui youth led all the wrong statistics in West Auckland when it came to education, crime and unemployment, four local friends born and raised in the area of Niuean, Samoan, Tongan and Māori lineages, came together and engaged our youngsters through positive events and activities, investing in and growing youth leadership and community pride.
From humble beginnings in volunteerism it is now a stand alone Charitable Trust providing opportunities for local young people to contribute meaningfully to their own lives, their family and their community.

About the role:

Tukutaula Punga Program Youth Mentor (YM).

The YM will be part of the Tukutaula Punga team that develops relationships with young Māori and Pasifika aged between 15-24yrs on the program, their families and key community and agency stakeholders to support a positive transition into adulthood.

It is a 12 month program that begins with 6 months intensive support to identify a young person’s current issues and needs and includes access to 3 Wananga, led and coordinated by our team, that will bring on leading members of our Indigenous Community including local Iwi representatives and Leading Pasifika Thought Leaders and Navigators to ground in self rediscovery, ending with the remaining 6 months of continued wrap around pastoral support.

Skills and Experience:

A fun and youthful perspective
Cultural competence and indigenous world views
Community connections
Existing relationships with Employers, local schools and education providers, community groups, clubs and youth providers
Established networks with key government agencies supporting young people including but not limited to NZ Police, Oranga Tamariki, Ministry of Health and Work and Income
At least 3 + years working with young people
A relevant qualification in youth development
A clean current NZ drivers license and access to own vehicle
A clean criminal record

*Must be available for some evenings, occasional weekend work and Wananga.

Benefits:

Birthday off
Gifted days during Xmas and New Years
Easter Tuesday off
And....You get to rock it with the 135 Crew!!!
