Gardening Volunteers!
Sending a big, leafy thank you to our two superstar garden volunteers.
Every week they roll in with smiles, tools, and serious green thumb energy mowing lawns, trimming edges, watering flowers, and keeping our grounds looking loved and lively. Because of their hard work our families arrive to a space that feels cared for and welcoming from the moment they step onto the property. 🌳

On Friday is our Linen & Bedding volunteers!

The "Holy Store" is where we keep all these specific donations,
From linen, towels, bedding, pillows, they keep our storeroom tidy, efficient, and ready to support families at a moment’s notice. We couldn’t do what we do without their energy, care, and absolute super‑sorting skills.

Monday through to Friday we have our Learning Centre & Playgroup Volunteers!

Learning Centre volunteers share their time, talent, and expertise with our families. Each week these qualified individuals run classes in digital literacy, English language, and more, opening doors and building confidence. 👩‍🏫

Playgroup Volunteers!
Every week they jump in with our teachers Li and June to help our little explorers paint, build, wobble, giggle, and discover the world one tiny adventure at a time.
From one-on-one support to creating calm moments, tidying up the mountains of toys that magically reappear, they keep our playroom running smoothly and joyfully.

On Tuesdays we have our Food Bank & Household goods Volunteers!

Our Food Bank volunteers sort every donated item with care, place food gently onto its labelled shelf, and check expiry dates so families receive only the best.

Our household goods volunteers sort our kitchen appliances from cups to plates, cutlery, and containers, every item finds its perfect labelled home thanks to their hard work.

We are deeply grateful for each and every one of them. 😊

On Mondays, we have our Clothing Volunteers onsite! So much gratitude and thanks to give to all these amazing volunteers who quietly keep our chapel space running like a dream.

Every week they sort through donated clothing, organize it by age, size, and gender, and make sure the room stays tidy and welcoming. Their care means families can easily find clothing they need for themselves and their children, without stress or fuss. 😊

Kickstarting National Volunteer Week (Te Wiki Tūao ā-Motu) with our annual volunteer's luncheon today!!

Over 60 volunteers attend DPH weekly to support its staff and operations. From the Board, to Playgroup, the CLC, office, social work & tenancy teams; providing governance and oversight, caring for children, tutoring adult learners, sorting donated goods, cleaning the office, and maintaining our gardens & grounds.

Last month alone, De Paul House received 98 enquiries from individuals and families seeking housing, food assistance, or additional support services.

During this period, we welcomed and housed 9 new families and successfully supported 6 families into their own permanent housing.

De Paul House is home to 38 adults, 66 children, and 7 seniors, as we continue working alongside families to provide stability, support, and pathways toward long-term housing outcomes.

To date, we've received 571 calls for help. We can often feel overwhelmed when looking at the pressing issues facing New Zealanders today. In this newsletter, we celebrate the positive and acknowledge the many good people working to support De Paul House.

De Paul House is part of the social infrastructure that holds communities together. Every day, we provide practical support, foster connection, champion advocacy, and create hope for people facing housing and social challenges.
