Last week we attended the sod turning for the Carrington Road Improvements project, joining Hon Simon Watts (Minister for Auckland), Councillor Richard Hills and AT’s Interim CEO Stacey van der Putten.
The east-west route, linking Pt Chevalier and Mt Albert, carries around 15,000 vehicles a day, connecting residents to State Highway 16 and the Northwestern Cycleway.
The project will provide a safer and more accessible area, with increased capacity to move people, by providing improved travel options, including bus priority, improved walking and cycling facilities, place-making, and safety improvements.
Funding for the project is being provided through the Government’s Infrastructure Acceleration Fund, with more than $110 million invested to improve the route.
The work is expected to start next month, and will take two years to complete.
