We had a great time visiting Greenhithe School as part of the Firewise programme 🚒🔥

Our crew met around 70 students from 8 different Year 1 and 2 classes, talking about some of the most important fire safety messages every child should know.

The students got a hands-on look at our breathing apparatus equipment, hoses, and fire truck, and asked some fantastic questions along the way!

We also chatted through key Firewise safety messages including:
👉 Get down, get low, get out – fast
👉 Matches and candles and the speed of fire
👉 How smoke alarms work and what to do if you hear a smoke alarm go off in your house

A huge thank you to the students and teachers at Greenhithe School for having us - we loved seeing so much enthusiasm and curiosity from the kids!

T-minus 16 days!
📸 Early morning training for some of our Sky Tower legends 🙌🏼

Fully geared up in firefighting kit, our volunteer firefighters are racing to the top of the Sky Tower - step by step, all to raise vital funds and awareness for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand.

This isn’t just a physical test, it’s a show of support for those battling blood cancers every day and our way of saying we’re behind you.

If you’re able to, please consider a donation - every dollar makes a real difference and helps fund life-saving research and patient support services.

Let’s get behind this cause and cheer our team on 💪🏼

🌺 ANZAC Day Commemoration – Greenhithe 🌺

You’re warmly invited to join the Greenhithe Volunteer Fire Brigade on Saturday 25 April (NOT 27 April), as we come together to commemorate ANZAC Day.

We will assemble at the Greenhithe Fire Station at 8:45am. Current and former service personnel are welcome to join us in marching from 8:50am to the War Memorial Gates on Roland Road.

The community service will begin at 9:00am and run for approximately 20 minutes. All members of the public are very welcome to attend.

🚗 A quick note for road users:
Please take extra care along Greenhithe Road and Roland Road during this time, as there will be a large number of people gathered. Out of respect, we kindly ask that you avoid driving through Roland Road at around 9:15am while the Last Post is played.

We look forward to seeing you there as we remember and honour those who served.

Stay safe everyone

Stay safe everyone

Fire and Emergency New Zealand is preparing for the impacts of Cyclone Vaianu this weekend.

We have been working with NEMA at the national level and with regional CDEM groups since mid-week, as well as the other emergency services.

Fire and Emergency has specialist resources, including teams with enhanced rescue and water rescue skills, ready to assist local brigades. Decisions on where to pre-position these resources will be made today.

Remember:

Always call 111 when life or safety is at risk.

Do not drive through floodwater—you are putting yourself at risk, and risking the lives of those who come to your rescue.

You can’t tell how deep the water is, or how swift.

The road may have been washed away; there could be hidden obstacles.

Take down trampolines and outside furniture so they don’t become flying hazards in strong winds.

Prepare for power outages.

We recommend using torches and battery-powered devices wherever possible to reduce the risk of unwanted fire in your home during a power cut.

Be mindful of weather warnings from MetService.

Follow all advice and instructions from Civil Defence.

Don’t forget to put your clocks back later tonight! And take a moment to check your smoke detectors are working by pushing the button once to hear a test beep noise. If you don’t hear a beep, try changing the battery and blowing or vacuuming any dust out.

We understand people in our communities are concerned about the impact of the Middle East conflict on fuel, and it may be tempting to store extra fuel on your property. Fire and Emergency does not recommend this.

Fuel is a highly flammable substance, and storing large quantities of it comes with serious fire danger.

A fire involving fuel spreads rapidly and releases a lot of heat. Even a small spill can cause a devastating fire that will spread incredibly quickly.

Find further information on the storage of your existing fuel: www.epa.govt.nz/everyday-environment/petrol/

Our brigade is preparing to commemorate ANZAC Day on 25 April, and we’re reaching out to our community for support.

Each year, we hold a service to honour those who have served and sacrificed. We parade from Greenhithe Volunteer Fire Station alongside current and former servicemen and women, before gathering at Greenhithe Memorial Park for a short service.

We are currently looking for:
• A parade leader (ideally someone with Defence Force experience – Army, Navy, or Air Force) to lead our march
• A bagpiper to accompany the parade
• Someone confident playing the Last Post on a bugle

If you, or someone you know in our community, would be willing to be part of this important occasion, we would love to hear from you.

Please send us a message or get in touch directly.

Thank you for helping us honour this important day.

Lest we forget.
