A message from Watercare:

Watercare will soon begin major watermain renewal works along Swanson Road (between Sturges Road and Lincoln Road), starting in late June 2026.

While full traffic management will be in place from early July (during the school holidays - YESSS), significant traffic disruption is expected to continue when school resumes on Monday, 20 July.
This includes lane reductions, contraflow traffic, and delays, particularly during peak travel times.

If families travel along Swanson Road, we encourage them to allow extra time for journeys or to consider alternative routes where possible.

"Matt, rest in peace – I've got the team – you will not be forgotten." – Sergeant Dean Taylor, speaking at Constable Matthew Hunt's funeral in 2020.

Today marks the sixth anniversary of Constable Matthew Hunt’s death while on duty. On Friday, 19 June 2020, Constable Hunt was shot and killed, and his partner was severely wounded during a routine traffic stop in Massey, Auckland.

Matt joined Police as a member of the Mark Solomon Wing 312, Section One, on 30 October 2017. His first day of duty was 19 March 2018. He spent most of his career working on the frontline at Ōrewa and Helensville stations before moving to Team Two of the Waitematā Road Policing Team based at Auckland Harbour Bridge Station.

Constable Hunt is described as a person of great integrity whose lifelong dream was to be a police officer. He is remembered as a young man who committed his life to protecting his community.

Today, our thoughts are with Matt’s family, friends, and colleagues who continue to grieve, as well as Constable Goldfinch and his family. Thank you for your service, Matt. You will always be remembered.

This is really good news for West Auckland. We need to help local businesses like these to flourish locally rather than move out of our area and go to other suburbs.

Local businesses support local jobs and economy.
