Last year I was privileged to meet the Topp Twins Dame Jools and her sister Dame Lynda Topp. Even then she was in a jovial mood saying Lynda lets take a photo with this tall, dark and handsome fella for a memory. It is a memory now that I will cherish.

Dame Jools was a New Zealand icon – someone I loved to watch and learn the Kiwi phrases from when I moved to NZ, many moons ago.

Thinking of her sister Dame Lynda and all of her family. Thank you for the memories. Rest in peace, Jools.

Congratulations Auckland FC you did it.

Deeply concerning that this took place in our area.

Sending thoughts for quick recovery for the victims and appreciate the swift work of the North Shore, Rodney & West Auckland Police in apprehending the culprit.

Two people have been arrested after two separate stabbing incidents in Rānui.

Attending the ANZAC Day service in Delhi today with the Australian and New Zealand High Commission has been a real honour and privilege.

Standing here in India, remembering the sacrifice of those who served, feels deeply personal. Many don’t realise that over 1,600 Indian soldiers died fighting alongside the ANZACs. Their courage and sacrifice are part of this shared history.
Freedom comes at a price. It is something we should never take for granted.

Today is about remembering, reflecting, and being grateful for those who gave everything so we can live the lives we do today.

I have to say this honestly, I am deeply disappointed and frankly disgusted by some of the racist remarks coming from people in positions of leadership.

As someone who came to this country, built a life here, contributed to the community, married here, and is raising Indian European kids, this hits close to home. This is not the New Zealand I believe in.

This is not leadership. This is not courage. This is simply vote gathering at the cost of dividing people.

What worries me even more is the message this sends to our children. If those in leadership can speak like this, what does that tell the next generation? Our kids are the ones who will feel it the most, in schools, in playgrounds, in everyday life.

New Zealand has been built by generations of immigrants who have worked hard, contributed, and helped shape the country we are proud to call home.

We all have a responsibility here.

I challenge every one of us to stand up, call this out, and show through our actions that this is not who we are.

Wait there are more retailers coming to Te Atatu

If you live out west and are job-hunting, a $50 million retail business will shortly seek about 90 staff for an operation opening in four months during August.

I’ve got my poppy on, lapel pin in place, and will participate in a quiet moment of reflection on 25 April ANZAC Day.

This coming ANZAC Day, we remember more than history. We remember people. Young men and women who left home, families who waited, and lives that were never the same again.

The freedom we enjoy today, the ability to speak openly, to gather, to build our communities, did not come easy. It was paid for with courage, sacrifice, and an unbreakable sense of duty.

This ANZAC Day, do take a moment of remembrance. Attend a service, wear your poppy, or simply pause.

Because remembrance is not just about the past, it is about the kind of country we choose to be.

As someone whom New Zealand welcomed to live, marry, have kids and contribute, I will always be grateful to the sacrifices of our fallen soldiers.

The new Kmart New Zealand Westgate store, opening on 1 July, is a great retail addition to West Auckland.

It is set to create around 240 jobs, meaning more local families supported and more opportunities for our young people to enter the workforce.

For many in our community, having a large, affordable retailer close to home makes everyday life a little easier. It saves time, reduces travel, and keeps spending within West Auckland. That has a flow-on effect for nearby businesses, cafes, and services in the area.

In saying so, hopefully, Auckland Transport ensures that the traffic, which is already a nightmare there with Costco and now Kmart coming, has some plans for traffic management.

Westgate continues to grow as a hub for our region, and investments like this show confidence in our community. With more jobs, more convenience, and more activity, this is a step in the right direction.

Looking forward to seeing the doors open and to the positive impact it will have on our people.
