With the cost of living continuing to rise, that crunch at the checkout is being felt by just about everyone. For many families, it's gone from "What do we feel like for dinner? Steak's on special" to "We need to put that back, it doesn't fit the budget."

People are finding ways to cut costs wherever they can. For some, it's switching from name brands to supermarket brands, for others it's skipping treats, cutting back on meals out or even, in some cases, using afterpay for petrol (this one is crazy to me).

What tips and tricks have you found to help stretch the budget?

One of mine is adding lentils to mince dishes, trust me, you can barely tell they're there, i've also started using a lot more dried beans because they're cheap, filling and go a long way.

Share your best money saving ideas in the comments. Recipes, rewards programmes, cheap places to shop, meal prep tricks, budget hacks or anything else that helps make the dollars go a little further, we might all learn something useful!

East Auckland has changed enormously over the last few decades.

What's something from the past that you remember fondly?

A business, a building, a local event or even just how the area used to feel.

We'd love to hear your memories and even better, share a photo if you have one!

For me, I'm still trying to find a photo of the old Bucklands Beach domain playground back when it was built almost entirely from wood and looked like the coolest castle imaginable to a little kid. The memories of that place have stuck with me all these years later. 😅

Do you have any photos you want to share? Put them in the comments below!

With the election fast approaching, time is going to fly by.

Following changes to the Electoral Act 1993 through the Electoral Amendment Act 2025, voters must be enrolled 13 days before Election Day.
This year’s election will be held on Saturday 7 November, so get the those enrollments in by the 25th of October

No matter who you plan to vote for, the most important thing is that you’re enrolled and ready to have your say. Even if politics isn’t your thing, the decisions made in Parliament will still affect you, your family, and your community.

Check your details or enrol online today:

So with Simeon at the helm of Nations campaign this election they simply want to rehash Labour's world leading covid response (a quote from the independent inquiry THEY paid for by the way).

Meanwhile, National is ignoring the simple reality that they have failed in fulfill their promise to make life easier for everyday kiwis. They want to blame the conflict in Iran while refusing to take any blame for their direct financial decisions that have led to several trickle down effects for New Zealanders.

Its clear the pivot away from Bishop to Brown is to go full in on culture war BS because the "greenshoots" kiwis have been promised for 3 years simply aren't growing. National refuses to own up and show leadership in such a globally trying time. Of course the inflation caused by their response to global events won't be THEIR fault (that government diesel reserve is looking pretty nice right about now aye? It's a shame they canceled it in 2024). That standard is only for Labour right?

Labour has been clear, our focus will be on a more affordable New Zealand for the majority not just the "wealthy and sorted". 3 free doctors visits to ensure working class people aren't forced to decide between a sore wrist and a packet of mince (up 23% since 2025). A Kiwi Future Fund to support strong New Zealand businesses to grow and provide high paying jobs so the rest of the bloody country doesn't leave for Australia. These are real policies focusing on what matters at the moment.

More to come soon! WATCH THIS SPACE.

Remember the pandemic? Well you’re going to – if Simeon Brown and Christopher Luxon have anything to do with it.
