A talented group of Year 13 Media Studies students, Blake Elliot, Lily Pearce and Max Hewin, recently entered the OnScreen youth filmmaking competition and were named 1 of 10 semi-finalists for their documentary, Snared. 🎥⚓️The documentary tackles big issues impacting New Zealand's marine life and connects with viewers on an emotional level.

Blake, Lily, and Max are all very passionate about media and have developed their skills through Media Studies class as well as being a part of the Sound and Lighting team at Pakūranga College.🤩 OnScreen provided the students with more growth opportunities by offering mentorship with industry professionals.

A big shout-out to Year 13 Young Enterprise business, Aroha Signs, who have been busy bringing New Zealand Sign Language to local primary schools with their fun and entertaining card game. It's selling now and $1 from every pack sold goes to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Foundation. 🫶

Te Tai o Pakūranga made the college community proud at Te Ahurea Tino Rangatiratanga last week, giving a heartfelt performance honouring the memories of Max Furse-Kee, Sharon Maccanico, Michael Williams, and Dr Dave Hofman; all members of the college community who sadly passed away in the last year. 🫶

Over the past 10 weeks, our tauira have committed themselves to regular practices three times a week, alongside additional full-day practices during the school holidays, totalling a huge 137.5 hours. 👏

In addition to this, the rōpū was here at 2:00am on the day of the festival to apply detailed tā moko ahead of their performance as the first group of the day! 💪

Ka pai tō mahi to all tauira, kaiako, and whānau involved in this amazing performance; it truly takes a village and we are so appreciative. ❤️

Last week we celebrated Korean Language Week 🇰🇷✨, with the Korean Cultural Group running lunchtime sessions of traditional Korean games and K-Pop dance performances that packed the Hall and nearly lifted our new roof right off as the audience showed some very loud appreciation.🤩👏 We had a blast celebrating Korean culture!😁

Last week, our Year 12 Hospitality students rose to the challenge as servers, expertly looking after staff and students in a special lunchtime assessment at the college cafe. 🍽 🤩

Lucky guests enjoyed fish and chips, brownie and ice cream, and a glass of sparkling grape juice.🍇The service from students was impeccable, and they no doubt passed with flying colours. 👌👏

On Thursday lunchtime, the Hall was absolutely pumping as PakConnect ran an incredibly successful expo for Mental Health Awareness Week. 🧠✨ With several mental health organisations and charities in attendance, every stall was packed as students collected information and stamps for their expo passport. All completed passports scored a sweet treat at the end!🍬

A day earlier, PakConnect and the Sports Council joined forces to run a lunchtime multisport event to encourage healthy movement, connection, and taking a break from academic stress. 🤝

Haere mai to all our new students and staff; we are so very pleased to have you join us at Pakūranga College! It was a privilege to welcome newcomers to the college with a mihi whakatau yesterday morning, as we gear up for a busy final term.

Our student musicians were busy last week giving some exceptional performances! 🎤🎺🥁

On Monday night, the Music Department held their Music Showcase, with multiple music groups performing to an excited audience of friends and family!🥳😁

At lunchtime on Thursday, SoulPak was jamming outside the Music Block for all Pakūranga College students to enjoy.🎶 They pulled a huge crowd of fans - even Mr Merchant was spotted! 🤩

We are so proud of all our students and staff who decided to do a big chop for Shave for a Cure this year!✂🥳 The event was as busy as ever, with over 30 participants and eager crowds waiting to see all the shaves and cuts. 😁

Thank you to the Service Council for putting on the incredibly successful event as usual, and raising valuable funds for Blood Cancer New Zealand.
