🌍🧘‍♀️ Wilderness Explorers School Holidays: Travelling Explorers Yoga Adventure! 🦒🦋🐬

Earlier this week our tamariki and whānau embarked on an imaginary journey and travelled from Tanzania to the Brazilian rainforest, China, and across the ocean back to the beautiful Aotearoa New Zealand, exploring wildlife through movement, imagination, and yoga.

Thank you to all our young explorers and their grown-ups for joining this fun-filled yoga adventure! And a big shoutout to Dawn for taking us on an amazing journey around the world! ✈️🌏💚

We had a great session at our Seed Exchange group yesterday with a special workshop on growing your own microgreens. Big thank you to Ali for teaching us how to grow nutritious greens at home, from seed to harvest, and create a salad using freshly harvested greens with a wilted greens dressing. Our community enjoyed it very much. Excellent workshop and very well attended.

🌿🏕️ Wilderness Adventure Time at Pakuranga Library! 🏕️🌿
Using natural materials found in our local parks as well as cardboard shoe boxes, our young explorers let their imaginations run wild and built their own mini survival shelters. From cosy forest hideaways to exciting wilderness adventures, our tamariki created amazing stories and characters surviving in the great outdoors while showcasing their creativity, imagination and problem-solving skills. What a fantastic school holiday programme we've had! Our young explorers enjoyed a range of hands-on activities that sparked creativity, curiosity, and discovery of the wilderness. 🎨✨ Creative Clay Fun at Pakuranga Library! ✨🎨
Over the weekend our library was buzzing with creativity as our tamariki rolled, shaped, and crafted their very own adorable kiwi creations from airdry clay. It was truly amazing to see all the budding clay artists bring their artistic ability and imaginations to life while exploring colours, textures, and creativity in a fun, hands-on way.

A heartfelt aroha to Rainbow Clay Art for sharing their talent and passion, and for delivering such an engaging and inspiring workshop for our community 🫶.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Howick Local Board for their ongoing support in bringing free, enriching workshops like this to the tamariki and whanau in our community.

💚 Thank you to everyone who joined us and made this activity so special. We loved seeing all the proud smiles and amazing clay masterpieces! 🖌️

Wilderness Explorers School Holidays | Meet a Park Ranger! 🤠
Thank you Abi from our Auckland Council Parks & Community Facilities team for visiting Pakuranga Library and giving an engaging and educational talk on pests, parks and conservation!

Our tamariki and whanau explored how monitoring tunnels are used to detect pest species through their footprints, helping rangers and conservation teams monitor and manage pest populations. We also learned about the diets of common pests found and the significant impact they can have on our native wildlife and forests in Aotearoa.

We value and appreciate the unique opportunity to learn more about the incredible conservation work taking place in our local parks and how everyone can help protect our natural treasures. 🌱🦜

Today marks the start of both the School Holidays and the Heritage Festival and the library has been buzzing with tamariki joining activities and enjoying our wilderness scavenger hunt. One of the things we have happening over these next two weeks is a heritage photo challenge - our library panda Hadi got us started this morning, stepping into the past to the opening of the Panmure Bridge in 1916. Pop in and take a photo next time you're in the library to get yourself in the prize draw!
