Two men will face court after a fake wall concealing a cache of illegal items was uncovered during a search warrant in Beach Haven yesterday.

Waitematā Police were investigating the manufacture of illicit drugs when they received information linking suspects to methamphetamine production.

Operation Dryden was launched, and Detective Senior Sergeant Josh Lautogo says enquiries led investigators to a residential address on Ranch Avenue.

"Led by the Waitematā Offender Prevention Team, a search warrant was executed yesterday morning alongside the Gang Disruption Unit, Clan Lab Team, Dog Section, and Specialist Search Group.

"As the search was conducted, officers identified a fake magnetic wall hidden within a wardrobe.”

Staff accessed the wall and located a loaded .22 calibre firearm and secondary magazine; approximately 20,000 Pseudoephedrine tablets; and chemicals allegedly used in the production of methamphetamine.

It is alleged the precursor materials have the potential to yield approximately 1-2 kilograms of methamphetamine.

An ottoman inside the house was also found to be concealing thousands of dollars in cash.

Two men at the address were taken into custody without incident.

"This was an excellent result which will disrupt organised criminal activity and those engaged in the production of illicit drugs.

"Police will continue to target the individuals and groups driving this harm in our communities,” Detective Senior Sergeant Lautogo says.

A 21-year-old man has been charged with unlawful possession of a prohibited firearm; unlawful possession of ammunition; possession of materials, equipment with intent; and unlawful possession of explosives.

He has been remanded in custody and will reappear in North Shore District Court on 24 September.

A 49-year-old man will appear in North Shore District Court today, charged with possession of methamphetamine; possession of cannabis; unlawful possession of ammunition; and possession of materials, equipment with intent.

An alleged Facebook Marketplace scammer is now facing a raft of charges after he defrauded victims out of thousands of dollars.

Earlier this year, Police received multiple complaints about a Facebook Marketplace user who had failed to send items to buyers.

The seller had allegedly pocketed over $13,700 after taking payments for goods including electronics, fishing reels, sports merchandise, music equipment, Lego, and Pokémon cards.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant James Kim, Waitematā North Area Investigation Manager, says Operation Camrose was established to locate the serial scammer.

"Enquiries revealed that between February and August of this year, the offender had been defrauding victims through Facebook Marketplace on a daily basis.

"He operated under multiple identities, and his fraudulent activity spanned the North Island."

Due to the scale of offending, the investigation required a coordinated response between Police districts across the country.

Yesterday, investigators in the Orewa Tactical Crime Unit executed a search warrant at an address in Arkles Bay.

A 42-year-old man was arrested and charged with 22 counts of obtains by deception; failing to comply with obligations relating to a computer search; possession of cannabis utensils; possession of methamphetamine utensils; injuring with intent to injure; and two counts of contravening a protection order.

He has been remanded in custody and will reappear in North Shore District Court on 13 January 2027.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Kim says Operation Camrose highlights the importance of exercising caution when using buy and sell platforms.

“These sites are a hunting ground for criminals to buy items using a fake bank transfer or sell items that don’t exist.

“We are urging those who use these platforms to do their due-diligence and not exchange any money without first examining the product.”

Police encourage consumers to only purchase items from trusted retailers or, when purchasing off TradeMe, using the PING payment method which provides buyers with some protections.

Two youths were taken into custody following a burglary in Henderson yesterday morning.

Around 8.30am, Police received a report of two males allegedly attempting to force entry into a commercial premises on Swanson Road.

Waitematā West Area Response Manager, Senior Sergeant Jon Winthrop says the caller informed Police the pair were trying to kick through the store's shopfront.

"Having been unsuccessful in gaining entry to the store, the young males then fled on foot towards Mihini Road.

"As units were dispatched, a second report was received, with the caller stating the pair were allegedly running down the road with large sticks in their possession.

Officers attended and located one of the youths near the scene, while the second male fled on foot.

Eagle and the Police Dog Unit were deployed and he was located nearby.

A 14-year-old male and a 15-year-old male have been referred to Youth Aid.

Quick thinking cops have taken another prolific shoplifter off the beat after discovering more than $7000 worth of stolen property inside his vehicle.

Earlier this week, Waitematā West Police executed a search warrant at a Massey address after making enquiries into a string of burglaries in Whenuapai, Kumeū and Westgate in recent weeks.

Waitematā West Area Prevention Manager, Acting Inspector Nick Salter, says officers arrested and charged a 29-year-old man.

“A search of the vehicle located a number of stolen items, most of which were tools.

“All items have been recovered and returned to their rightful owners, and we estimate they are collectively valued at more than $7000.

“This is an outstanding result and reflects some very good Police work by officers who were relentless in ensuring a prolific offender is held accountable for his actions.”

The man will appear in Waitākere District Court on 6 October facing charges including burglary, theft from a motor vehicle and taking documents dishonestly.

An alleged burglar lay the foundation for charges after he was caught at a construction site in Glen Eden early yesterday morning.

At around 4.40am, Police received a report of a male unlawfully at a construction site on Great North Road.

Senior Sergeant Jon Winthrop, Waitematā West Area Response Manager, says the site's security company watched as the man ignored signs prohibiting entry and walked onto the grounds.

"Security staff notified Police, and officers promptly attended."

The man was located on-site and he was arrested.

A makeshift hacksaw was found in his possession, and enquiries revealed the man was in breach of his bail conditions.

A 48-year-old male has been charged with burglary.

He has been remanded in custody and will reappear in Waitākere District Court on 7 December.

Police are renewing our appeal to locate Rogan Hare-Huru, who has a warrant for his arrest and is actively avoiding Police.

The 30-year-old is wanted by Police for fi****ms offending and is known to have connections across Auckland and Northland.

Hare-Huru is considered dangerous and should not be approached.

Police believe there are people in the community who are assisting Hare-Huru and hold information on his whereabouts.

Police are seeking the public’s help to locate Courtney Drake, who has been reported missing in Auckland.

The 31-year-old was last seen in Manurewa on 30 July.

Police and Courtney's family have not heard from her and are concerned for her wellbeing.

Courtney is 165cm in height and is believed to be within the wider Auckland area.

A long-running Police investigation has shut down one of the largest syndicates allegedly operating and supplying cannabis grow houses across Auckland.

Twelve arrests were made as Police descended on the Vietnamese organised criminal group, supported by Immigration New Zealand and New Zealand Customs.

Operation Blackout, led by the National Organised Crime Group, has provided unprecedented insight into the sophisticated criminal operation based out of suburban Auckland.

Police executed 19 search warrants across Auckland late last week including Flat Bush, Howick, Sylvia Park, Wiri and Massey.

Detective Senior Sergeant John Brunton says the investigation went above suburban cannabis grow house operations being uncovered by routine policing operations.

“We have deliberately taken the time to investigate the syndicate’s activities and build a picture of its network, which we will allege is one of the largest of its kind.

“Police have been working closely with a range of agencies as part of the investigation, learning more about the syndicate’s criminal activities. This includes allegations of supplying cannabis cultivation equipment, cannabis cultivation and money laundering.

Police have laid dozens of changes in the investigation.

Brunton says a 36-year-old Flat Bush man, who Police allege is the king pin of the operation, faces six charges.

Those include participating in an organised criminal group, money laundering, supplying equipment used in cannabis cultivation and possession of cannabis for supply.

The man appeared in the Manukau District Court on 20 August and will reappear in November.

Others allegedly involved in the syndicate, two women and nine men, all face charges relating to participating in an organised criminal group, money laundering and drugs offences.

During search warrants in Auckland, Police made seizures including around $1,250,000 worth of cannabis cultivation equipment and $80,000 in cash.

Police also located a pistol and ammunition at a Massey property.
Around 35 kilograms of cannabis and several large bags of M**A pills were also seized.

“This is a fantastic result and sends a strong message to any syndicates operating – we are watching,” Brunton says.

“Police are closely working across other law enforcement and government agencies to target syndicates involving themselves in this sort of criminal offending.”

Police are present at a Mangawhai property after a burglar confronted its occupants with a weapon earlier this afternoon.

Just before 2pm, a 111 call was made by an occupant at the address on Robert Street.

“An unknown male has entered the property armed with a piece of wood, and confronted occupants that were home at the time,” Acting Detective Inspector Megan Goldie, of Waitematā CIB says.

“This male has advanced on the occupants, and a confrontation has occurred where the occupants have disarmed the male.”

Police and ambulance staff were contacted, as medical assistance was provided to this unknown male by the occupants.

Acting Detective Inspector Goldie says the male, a 26-year-old, has been taken to Whangārei Hospital.

He is in a serious condition, but those injuries are currently not thought to be life-threatening.

“An investigation is now underway to establish exactly what has occurred this afternoon, but I can reassure the community that Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to this incident,” acting Detective Inspector Goldie says.

A scene guard has been set up at the Robert Street address, with a scene examination to take place at a later stage.

“You will see an increased Police presence in the Mangawhai community in response to this afternoon's incident.”

Acting Detective Inspector Goldie says charges are to be confirmed.
