Postcards from our lovely, always smiley, Riddhika (ரித்திகா) have arrived about a month after the program! :) originally from Australia 🇦🇺 Riddhika is of Sri Lankan (Ilangai) Tamil Heritage. She spent a few months up north in Jaffna and can't wait to share with her loved ones of her pre-program work placement experience! :)

As summer is approaching its expiration, we wanted to celebrate our last bits of sunshine 🌞 with our fellow lankans & friends in London!! We're excited to share our next hub event in London, taking place next Friday on the 4th of September in London!!

If you're planning on joining, drop us a message so we can add you to the groupchat and drop the exact pin of the picnic! It's a little bring and share, so if you've been on the sourdough grind this summer or baking high, bring your goodies and picnic with us! :)

Maskeliya to Kegalle 🌿

Conversations, shared meals, new friendships, and a day spent with the incredible students at Kegalle SANASA Campus.

From learning to cook traditional Hath Maluwa to exploring the local community together, every moment reminded us that reconnecting with your roots is about people as much as place.

We started Day 1 with an introduction to the Sanasa faculty, heard Miss Samadanie Kiriwandeniya from SANASA International share the vision of the Sanasa movement and their impact to date.
We received a traditional cooking lesson to end the night and enjoyed a warm meal with our partners.

Day 2 - We had the privilege of meeting one of the societies under Sanasa international, met local entrepreneurs, visited the Saaradiyel village and ended the evening with a dip and reflections in one of Kegalle's rivers🦦

From Anika, to you 🤍

// Anika is one of our Cohort 2 participants who joined us as a volunteer in Maskeliya for Cohort 3. Her ancestors are originally from Maskeliya. They relocated to Colombo and then the UK. Anika had the opportunity to re-visit her roots through our program, and it was a privilege for us to be part of such an incredible milestone for Anika! :) here's a little letter Anika kindly shared with us, written for her family back 🏠

Made it the second leg of the tour - luscious, chilly 🥶 Maskeliya!! Hand to cup ☕️

We started the day in the tea plantations, experiencing firsthand the incredible skill and physical effort that goes into picking the leaves behind every cup of tea. It gave us a whole new appreciation for the people and communities at the heart of Sri Lanka’s hill country.

The rest of the day was spent volunteering with the Tamil Learning Facilitation Trust (TLFT), visiting the Norwood Sunday School and spending time with the local community.

From learning together to sharing stories with our homestay families, every conversation helped us better understand the rich history, resilience and culture of this region.

Kicked of our first day visiting hatch learning about the startup ecosystem in Sri Lanka, something to be proud of. Shout outs to Rodrigo’s, Sri Lanka for the fabulous lumprais

We met with Asanka de Mel who showed us how diaspora can play a part in Sri Lankas prosperity

Followed by a confronting but eye opening history session with Project 72 & Sarah Kabir
