Ever heard about a new build with condensation on the windows?

It happens more often than people realise, even when the home meets the building standards. It’s a huge problem, but it doesn’t have to be!

In NZ, we are required to insulate our walls and ceiling, and more recently, install double glazing to provide warmer, comfier homes. But when windows aren't installed properly, it breaks the insulation line, allowing cold to flow inside and condensation and mould to form.

Installing windows properly isn’t rocket science. They should be installed recessed into the wall, not hanging out in the cold like they’re normally positioned.

Why are recessed windows best?

- More comfort: Recessed windows align insulation layers in the window and wall, ensuring there is no gap for heat loss and chilly draughts

- Aesthetics: The recess creates depth and interesting shadow lines for a modern style

- Design: it’s how high-performance windows were designed to be installed, and makes a noticeable difference to how a home performs

It’s cold in your home. The heater is running constantly, but you never feel comfy.

Why is that?

It’s easy to assume it's your heater or the insulation that’s the problem, but often it’s the windows.

Windows are one of the largest surfaces in your home, and thin sheets of glass and old aluminium frames let heat escape faster than you’d expect. No wonder it’s cold!

Amazing product, amazing partners!

Ambiance by STÄRKE are proud to support Flexi House, and it was great to be onsite at their latest project in Waikanae last week.

The discerning homeowners of this high performance build chose Ambiance uPVC windows by STÄRKE after doing their due diligence, including a factory tour, and we can promise that soon they will be experiencing more comfort than they expected!

The build included fully glazed windows, hinged and even sliding doors being installed into panels offsite, then being craned into place for a super-quick high performance build.

On site at a Platinum Homes show home, Peter chats with Sam Watt from Platinum Homes Rodney, a licensed building practitioner with 25+ years in the industry, about what good joinery feels like.
