🎃 We need your help this Halloween! 👻🚒
THIS WEEKEND - SEE YOU THERE!

Every year, Manly Volunteer Fire Brigade joins the Halloween fun at Manly Circle. We hand out lollies, stickers and colouring-in sheets, and the little (and sometimes big!) kids can have a sit in our fire truck.
We will be at the circle for Halloween from around 5pm on the 31st October for a couple of hours.

We rely on donations from our generous supporters to help provide the lollies. Our firefighters often buy some themselves too, but we always seem to run out—and we’d love to have enough for everyone this year!

If you’re able to help, please consider buying a bag or two of individually wrapped lollies for hygiene reasons and dropping them off at the brigade.
If no one’s available, you can leave the lollies by the front door and someone will collect them. If you’re passing and see someone there, pop in—they might even give you a tour!

Manly Volunteer Fire Brigade was lucky enough to host a couple of kids this morning while they were carrying out truck checks letting them have a go with the hose and a quick ride around the block!

One of these kids, TJ, is definitely a future Firefighter!!! 🚒🔥❤️💪

Prior to being an independent station, Manly Volunteer Fire Brigade was a branch of Silverdale Volunteer Fire Brigade so thought it was appropriate to share this post from our Brothers and Sisters down the road! ❤️🔥🚒

🚒 A Look Back at Silverdale Fire Brigade History

On 21 February 1970, the newly built Silverdale Fire Station was officially opened. Interestingly, both Silverdale and Manly Fire Stations were opened on the same day! Unfortunately, Silverdale’s new 1970 D600 Ford was still being built in Nelson and wasn’t ready in time for the opening ceremony.

📸 Pictured are three appliances with an important place in Silverdale’s history.

🚒 1964 TK Bedford – Silverdale

This Bedford spent time at Manly between 1970 and 1972 before returning to Silverdale, where it remained until 1981. It was then transferred to the Northland District relief fleet. The last reports suggest it eventually ended up being used in the mines at Huntly.

🚒 1938 Ford V8 – Ex Auckland Metropolitan Fire Board

Originally stationed at St Heliers, this appliance was acquired from the Auckland Metropolitan Fire Board and spent its entire service at Silverdale as the second appliance. It was eventually replaced by the 1972 D1013. The 1938 Ford V8 is now proudly owned by the Balclutha Volunteer Fire Brigade.

🚒 1936 Ford V8 – Ex Dargaville

Purchased by the Silverdale and Districts Volunteer Fire Brigade, this Ford V8 served both Silverdale and Manly. When the 1970 Ford D1013 arrived, it was replaced and subsequently transferred to the newly formed Kumeu Volunteer Fire Brigade. Unfortunately, its whereabouts since then are unknown.

These historic appliances represent an important chapter in the story of our local volunteer fire brigades. Each one played its part in protecting the community and helping shape the brigades we know today.

On Saturday night Manly Volunteer Fire Brigade had their annual Honours night where we come together to celebrate the brigades achievements through awards/trophy’s for several different categories, along with time of service awards, which are gained from the time members serve 3 years (certificate).
They are then awarded a medal at 5 years and a bar every 2 years after that.

It was a great night with many receiving awards, including Max Heydon, who received 3 trophies on the night!!! 🔥❤️🚒

We also had the pleasure of having our main 2 sponsors, Café Manly and Topshape Gym attending along with the Rt Hon Mark Mitchell MP.

🚨 BRIGADE ACHIEVEMENT ALERT!!! 🚨

A massive CONGRATULATIONS to the newly ranked Qualified FireFighter (QFF) Jo Lea!

Jo just competed a gruelling week of training at our National Training Centre to consolidate all the skills she has been honing in on and is now at that next level of experience and rank!!!

Jo received her new rank from Acting CFO Robinson at training tonight and members from her watch, Acting DCFO Janette Baird and SFF Russ White, had the privilege of fitting her new epaulettes.

Nice work Jo!!
