Day 5 - School Visits

This morning we had our last visit to the Maunga. We had another beautiful morning with the mist in the distance and the full height of the maunga hidden from view.
As always we enjoyed a karakia at the top of the maunga to start off our day.

The plans for today - school visits to Peria School with a short performance and then to Pamapiria school. We also went to Kaitaia and visited Te Ahu - library and museum andaany a waiata in the centre.

Our tamariki were awesome… the sang and danced and represented all the dual language classes in our school. Most of the schools never have the opportunity to witness Polynesian cultures so it was nice to share it.

We will let the photos tell the story. The day was both beautiful and very full.

We will be leaving tomorrow morning. Please check our page to get updates of the towns we pass through.

Day 4 - Waitangi Treaty Grounds

It was an early morning start with our first walk along the beach to the Maunga, Rangikapiti. We had a beautiful view of the coastline of Coopers Beach and had the tamariki at the base of the hill in no time.

After a yummy breakfast of porridge and toast and sausages from last night dinner we all prepared for our visit to Waitangi.

It was a beautiful day, the sun was out and we were excited to go to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds.

When we got back to the campgrounds we got to swim at the beach and then prepare for our performance at camp followed by the yummiest dinner and dessert.

What an awesome day. Tomorrow is our last full day of camp….

Day 2

We had a great day today despite the weather causing a slight change to our schedule.

Our tamariki travelled to Rangiputa which is located on the Karikari Peninsula , known for its abundance of seafood, particularly kina. We had a small group of 16 try their hand at snorkeling in wetsuits and flippers - it was cool to see. We are grateful for Ray from Experiencing Marine Reaerves who facilitated this activity today and kept us all safe.

The remainder of our camp group went for a swim at the beach and then we all headed back to the campsite for lunch.

A small group of tamariki went to Taipa to pick p**i while the tide was low.

We had a yummy dinner - chicken, cabbage, carrots and mashed potatoes, followed by steam pudding for dessert.

Our group also had their cultural practice this afternoon as well as some fun activities onsite.

It has been a long day but a great day!

Day 2
It was an early morning rise to prepare for our morning hikoi up the local maunga Rangikapiti. Everyone was up and ready to go by 5:30am.
They all made it up the maunga in 40 minutes and spent some time at the top enjoying the sunrise and sharing positivity.
We are heading out to Rangiputa today… will send another evening post
