We are a school committed to both academic and personal development. We balance academic work with a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities to develop confident strong young people ready to contribute to society. Teachers at Birkdale Intermediate are dedicated and work hard to provide a balanced, challenging programme that encourages academic excellence. Staff are keen to participate in ongo

ing programmes of professional development to enhance their teaching abilities and skills. All academic programmes are well planned and the school is continuing to develop ways to ensure that accelerate students and the special needs of children are catered for in order the each child’s potential is realised. An increasing emphasis is being placed on literacy and numeracy and the school aims to prepare each student for success as lifetime learners. We focus on the key competencies from the New Zealand Curriculum. These include thinking, using language, symbols, and text, managing self, relating to others and participating and contributing.

Our boys basketball team competed really well against some tough teams and worked really hard for each other and showed great sportsmanship. We lost 3 really close games and finished the day with a well earned and much deserved win. I was really proud of the boys' attitude and resilience during the games. Ka pai!
