A new bid to rescue Moana Pasifika has emerged, with a consortium led by a Los Angeles-based tech multimillionaire exploring plans to relocate the Super Rugby franchise to Hawaii, RNZ understands.

The proposal has emerged just days after shareholders voted to appoint liquidators to the team's holding company. Moana Pasifika ended its season with a 21-19 win over the Brumbies on Saturday night, in what many feared could have been the club's final match.

Tonga’s Finance Minister has been found guilty of indirect bribery after being part of a plot to gift plastic bags of sliced fish to try and buy votes during last year’s national election.

Lata’ifaingata’a Tangimana was found guilty in Tonga’s Supreme Court on Tuesday after allegations surfaced by a rival running against him during last year’s poll.

The court found Tangimana consented to a colleague handing the plastic bags with two slices of fish to two voters in September last year, in what the court found was an act of indirect bribery.

Tonga’s government has been contacted for comment.
