The Vanuatu Consulate General in New Zealand extends its warmest congratulations to designer Gigi Baxter of Haus of BwaGavi, on the recent participation in the Pacific Fusion Fashion Show at New Zealand Fashion Week.

This marks the first time a designer from Vanuatu has been invited to take part in this prestigious Pacific fashion event, a significant achievement that reflects the growing recognition of Vanuatu's creative talent on the international stage.

Beyond its cultural significance, this milestone speaks to the broader strength of the relationship between Vanuatu and New Zealand — one built not only on trade and tourism, but on the shared celebration of Pacific identity, craftsmanship and enterprise. Opportunities such as this help open doors for Vanuatu's creative and small business sector, showcasing the calibre of what our nation has to offer to New Zealand audiences and beyond.

We congratulate Gigi Baxter on this well-deserved recognition and look forward to seeing Vanuatu's creative industries continue to flourish on regional and International levels.

Wan bigfala wik long Vanuatu long Niu Silan! 🇻🇺

What a week it has been for Vanuatu across Aotearoa! From Otago to Canterbury, Nelson & Tasman to Wellington, Bay of Plenty to Auckland — our communities and students have come together to celebrate Bislama Language Week with so much pride, colour and energy.

We've loved seeing the photos and stories roll in: classrooms learning their first Bislama words, community groups sharing kaikai, kastom, dance and stories, and students proudly showcasing the beauty of ni-Vanuatu culture to their wider NZ communities. Every event, big or small, has helped shine a light on our language, our people and the place we call home.

And what better way to cap off the week than rolling straight into Independence celebrations — a proud reminder of who we are and where we come from, celebrated together, side by side, thousands of kilometres from home.

Bigfala tangkiu i go long yufala evriwan long ol komuniti — Otago, Canterbury, Nelson & Tasman, Wellington, Bay of Plenty, mo Auckland — we bin givim taem, wok mo hat wok blong yufala blong mekem ol event ia oli hapen. Without our hardworking diaspora, none of this would be possible. Yufala i mekem Vanuatu i praod! Thank you also to the Ministry of Ministry for Pacific Peoplesfor your belief in our people🙏🌺

✈️🇻🇺 A proud milestone for Vanuatu and New Zealand!

The Consul General of Vanuatu, McKenzie Kalotiti, was honoured to be part of the inaugural direct Christchurch to Port Vila flight operated by Solomon Airlines.

This new twice-weekly service marks an exciting new chapter, creating greater opportunities for tourism, strengthening trade connections, and making travel more accessible for South Island-based Recognised Seasonal Employer (RSE) workers and their families.

The Consul General extends his sincere congratulations to everyone who played a role in making this successful launch possible, including Solomon Airlines, the Vanuatu Tourism Office, the Department of Tourism, Christchurch Airport, and Airports Vanuatu.

Together, this partnership is strengthening the connection between the South Island and Vanuatu, making it easier than ever to experience the warmth, culture, and opportunities our islands have to offer.

Congratulations to all involved on this significant achievement! 🇻🇺🤝🇳🇿

It is with great sadness that we hear of the passing of the former First Secretary, Sanianna Trief. Sanianna spent many years working at the High Commission in Wellington, a woman of integrity, respect and love for others and her country. Rest in love and peace our dear friend. The Consul General, McKenzie Kalotiti sends his thoughts and prayers to Sanianna's family and friends at this sad time.

The Consul General was invited by Valorie Patrick from Yumi Talem to provide a reflection from Sunday's OFC match which saw Vanuatu United FC take the win and qualify for the semi final match being played tomorrow.

I have attended many sporting events over the years, but Sunday’s OFC Pro Leaguematch between Vanuatu United FC and Bula FC was something I will carry in myheart for a very long time. It was not simply a football match. It was a testament tothe enduring power of sport to unite people, to give voic...
