WARNING!!!!! Kia Ora e te whanau,
This coming school holidays our school will be closed for everyone including our community due to the toxic removal of asbestos on our technology block. Specialist removers from Auckland will be onsite across the two weeks to safely remove the asbestos and demolish our tech block to make way for our new building. Please do not go anywhere onsite during this process including the playground and tennis court area. KIA TUPATO!!!! Signage and notices will be posted around the school boundary fence lines. What an amazing day at Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Hokianga, who made us welcome and put on an impressive spread for us, and a big shout out to Rob Moa for his dedication to the boys training and prep for the game, big ups to the boys and the young bucks that jumped on that field. We traded tries in a hectic and crowd pleasing game, with last minute points from the South Side giving them the win. Huge mihi to the whanau that came to tautoko, students who attended for support and the players themselves. And from our Netball coach Whaea Cath: Wow! What an incredible improvement our team has made in just one year! Our girls played their hearts out to make the tournament final, narrowly missing out on the top spot by just one goal to Hokianga in an absolute nail-biter of a game.
Highlights from the court: Player of the Day: Kōwhai Pihema took out the honours for her outstanding work at Goal Keeper (GK), securing countless turnovers for the team.
Defensive Duo: Kōwhai and Hinerangi were an absolute wall at the defensive end of the court. Mid-Court Engine: Our mid-courters showed fantastic growth, looking after the ball with great security and making smart decisions under pressure. Shooting Stars: Kaya and Ramari provided strong, reliable shooting options at GA and GS.
Leadership: Captain Monique Roberts-Brown was deservingly acknowledged by the opposition for her exceptional skills and outstanding sportsmanship.

A massive thank you to Renee for organising the trip, and to all the whānau who travelled to cheer the girls on from the sideline. Your support was amazing! Manganuiowae all day 💙

Our final day of our haerenga was a big one, with the AUT and University of Auckland Open Days, and a boy vs girl challenge where the students had to interview a range of people, take photos and complete missions, both groups did an amazing job, with the girls engaging the MC and the crowd at the quad to take part in their photo challenge, and the boys taking out some top spots in the HIKO uni gym competition, and completing some interactive interviews, with the boys narrowly taking the win. The real purpose was to get them to engage, as Puti told us at Waikato, the help and support is there for you at uni, but you do have to reach out to find it. A huge mihi to everyone that helped and supported us on this haerenga, and especially to our volunteer driver Garry Klaricich, who got us there and back and everywhere in between safe and sound!

A huge mihi to everyone at the University of Waikato, to our homes away from home, Jaz Murray and Puti Harris, to Te Rina and Beau from Te Pua Wānanga, to Evie and crew at UniRec, to our guide Chloe, to the staff at the Halls of Residence, and to Nima, you really showed us the manaaki and the ngākau mahaki of your university. The students were so spoiled by you all today, tours, a work out, kai and taonga, and most of all, your time and kindness, ka mau tō koutou wehi!
