🌱 A fantastic community effort at Long Bay!

I was really pleased to be at the Long Bay Planting Day a couple of weeks ago, where I had the chance to speak with loads of amazing volunteers, help get some plants in the ground and see first-hand the incredible work happening to restore the streamway and create better habitat for our native species.

And what an effort! 1,850 native plants planted in one day!🌿

There’s something particularly special about this work at Te Oneroa ō Kahu. Long Bay has such a rich natural and cultural history, and there’s a growing focus on how we can reconnect with that history while reimagining the future of this special place. Some amazing local organisations and passionate people came together two years ago for the "Imagining Te Oneroa ō Kahu Long Bay Workshop Series" and the community came out in full force to back up that vision.

A huge thank you to everyone who made this happen and who came along and got stuck in: Long Bay Residents' Association, Restore Hibiscus & Bays, Auckland Council Community Parks, Long Bay Regional Park, New World Long Bay, New World Browns Bay, Shore Friends, Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust, and Bays Work In Progress 💚

♡East Coast Bays Library is looking for Book Delivery Volunteers♡

Anyone who loves books knows the feeling. A day without turning a page feels a little empty.
For some of our housebound customers, book delivery is one of the ways they can keep enjoying books and stay connected with the library.

We're looking for warm hearted volunteers to bring library books to neighbours who can't make it to the library anymore.

* First Thursday of each month
* Around 1 to 2 hours per month
* Driver's licence preferred
* Friendly, confident conversational English

Library staff will choose and prepare the books for you.
All you need to do is collect them, deliver them, and bring back the ones your customer has finished.

🌿 Congratulations to all the 2026 Tāmaki Makaurau Zero Waste Awards winners! 🌿

A huge congratulations to everyone recognised for their outstanding mahi helping to reduce waste, protect our environment and create a more sustainable Auckland. A VERY special congratulations to the Ōrewa College Enviro Group, who won the Rangatahi Leadership Award! 🏆👏

The Ōrewa College Enviro Group inspires young people to take action for the environment and are taking practical action, educating others and developing leadership skills in the environmental and waste reduction space.

Their mahi includes helping restore the ecosystem at the local estuary, establishing soft plastic recycling and food waste reduction programmes at school, and bringing students from different schools together to collaborate and share ideas about sustainability and environmental issues.

It’s fantastic to see young people from our local area leading the way and showing that meaningful environmental action can start at school and have an impact far beyond it. 🌱💚

Congratulations Ōrewa College Enviro Group! A very well-deserved award! And congratulations to all of the Zero Waste Awards winners for the incredible work you are doing across Auckland 👏🏆
