Book Week 2026
Grab your capes, your wands, your crowns,
The coolest characters are in town!
Cambridge Primary, shout hooray,
Friday, 15th May was Book Week Parade Day!

This year we marched with extra pride,
with Kiwi Tales as our brilliant guide,
From native bush to the ocean blue,
Maui, taniwha and the kiwi too!

Then off we went on Epic Trails,
With daring quests and mythical scales,
Everyone dressed in wild disguises,
Smiles, laughter and big surprises.

From the library shelves to the classroom door,
There's magic at CPS and so much more.
With stories to share and tales to be told,
Of heroes and wizards and treasures of gold.
Grandparents and Special Friends, you're the stars,
No matter how near or how incredibly far.
In this Book Week wonder, we're so glad you came,
To join in our world and the reading game!

Yesterday was a special day at CPS, which was marked by the blessing and opening of the newest section of the playground.

The children eagerly awaited this day - after closely watching the progress over the last few weeks!

We were privileged to have Dianne and Johnson- from Ngaati Korokii Kahukura, come along to bless our new playground. They have a long connection with our kura. Having had their own children attend our school, and having also blessed our school pool when it opened. We are honoured to have such long standing connections in our community.

Mayor Mike Pettit also attended this event. He shared the community, sponsorship and grant application process that made this dream of the children become a reality.

Alongside our sponsors and amazing PTA, and the Principal Justin Bertrand, - Mayor Mike Pettit cut the ribbon so the children could finally enjoy the long awaited joy of testing out the new equipment!!!

Our youngest students - just 5 years old explored the slides, followed by our 2026 House Leaders who tested out the taller structures. Even Harold the Giraffe from Life Education came and tested out the playground.

Needless to say - it is an exciting time to be a kid at CPS!

Thankyou to the staff and PTA that worked to fundraise and apply for grants, and to our amazing sponsors :
Gold sponsor - Property Brokers
Silver sponsor - Wilson’s Flooring Cambridge
Bronze sponsor - Cogswell Surveys
Plus Lions Club Cambridge and many more.

This is another significant event that will be remembered in the timeline of CPS.

Are you an ex-student, staff or family of CPS? We have an active CPS Alumni group which you can find out more on our website.

Thank you Mr Bertrand and our house leaders for representing CPS and placing the wreath at today’s ANZAC Day Civic Ceremony on our behalf. On Saturday we acknowledged all of those who have served, and continue to serve our nation. This also includes those who did not return.

Also to our superstar teacher / floral whizz Blossoms On Bellevue - Briar Cooper - thankyou for you support!

At the going down of the sun,
and in the morning,
we will remember them.

I te tōnga o te rā, ā, i te aranga mai anō o te rā,
ka maumahara tonu tātou ki a rātou.
