Thank you to the Wanganui East Club Fishing Adjunct for the donation!!

Donations made to our unit are spent directly on our unit, resourcing our volunteer crew both on the vessel and those on the radios, maintenance on our vessel, and providing a service to the Whanganui community.

We appreciate it 👏

We recently had the defence force on board for a training session on going out over the bar, great couple hours hosting them!

We got some training in this weekend!

Decent time was spent doing the basics.

Close quarter handling on the helm for our operational crew.

And for our newer volunteer it was all about the basics of a tow; the kicker, the boat hook and barging.

Good day for all, one of the main things mentioned in our debrief for the day was how calm and relaxed we all felt on the vessel, it provided a great training environment.

On the weekend we got some training in while the sun was shining!

We’ve got some new crew members coming through at the moment and they’re all super keen to get out on the water to start their familiarisation of the rescue vessel👌🏼

A wet but very fun afternoon for our unit!

The Manawatu Volunteer Coastguard came down with their Jet skis for take us for a spin and show us what they can do, how they handle and answer a tonne of questions.

Thanks guys for taking time on your Sunday to come down!

We appreciate it and nothing beats training with other coastguard units, we’re pretty lucky to have relationships with units either side of us here in Whanganui.

Smiles all round from our crew 😊

Today Sam Mordey closed out his last trip report with us as the skipper/captain of the Paddle Steamer Waimarie.

Sam thanked us for our watch over the last 20 years as he and his crew sailed the awa.
In those 20 years we have had some wicked training opportunities with the Waimarie and Sam.

All the best with the next venture Sam and we look forward to hearing you over the radio from the Motor Vessel Wairua.
