Today was all about training, teamwork and making motorsport safer. 🏁🔥🚑

Ruapuna Motorsport Rescue was pleased to lead today’s emergency services training at Ellesmere Speedway, working alongside the Hato Hone St John Motorsport Events Team and members of the Ellesmere Motor Racing Club community.

The afternoon combined fire science and behaviour, basic fire extinguisher use and techniques, and importantly, understanding and working safely around the different fuels encountered in motorsport.

The St John crew also gave the RMR team an insight into ambulance operations, with the team also getting hands-on with the rollover simulator — looking at driver access and the challenges involved when a race vehicle ends up the wrong way up.

Days like today are valuable because motorsport safety isn't just the responsibility of the rescue crew or medical team. Drivers, pit crews and officials can all find themselves first on scene, and knowing what to do — and what not to do — can make a real difference.

A huge thank you to Ellesmere Motor Racing Club for hosting us, Hato Hone St John Motorsport Events Team for working alongside RMR, and everyone who gave up their Saturday afternoon to take part.

🔥🏙️ TODAY’S THE DAY! 🏙️🔥

A huge shoutout to our incredible Melissa Knowles and Shaun Mahon who are taking on the SkyTower Firefighter Challenge today! 💪🚒

This challenge is no joke — hundreds of stairs, full firefighting gear, and pure determination from start to finish as she raises funds and awareness for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand.

We are beyond proud of you, Melissa & Shaun! Your commitment, strength, and community spirit inspire us all. Wishing you strong legs, steady breathing, and an epic finish at the top! 🧗‍♀️🔥

Some events test your systems. Others test your people. The Supercars Christchurch 440 at Euromarque Motorsport Park demanded both — and delivered.

With over 30 personnel on duty each day, three first response rescue units, a fully equipped fire appliance, and a dedicated pit lane fire crew, this was one of the largest operations we’ve undertaken for any single event. A huge logistical effort met with professionalism, precision, and teamwork every step of the way.

Fuelled by bacon butties (thanks Tem!) each morning and plenty of determination, we faced more than a few hurdles along the way — but perseverance carried us through.

We were proud to work alongside the familiar faces of the Canterbury Car Club, as well as those who travelled from afar to be part of this inaugural event. A huge thank you also to our own team who came from as far south as Invercargill and as far north as Matamata — that level of commitment doesn’t go unnoticed.

We’re proud to have stood ready behind the scenes so the racing could take centre stage.

A massive effort. A solid result. On to the next. 🚒🏁

Otago Rally 2026 brought it all with over 140 entries — winding roads through some of the most stunning parts of the country, clouds of dust (and plenty of mouthfuls of it), and the kind of scenery that almost makes you forget you’re there to work… almost.

It’s the people who make it, though. Drivers pushing limits, crews working nonstop, volunteers giving their all, and communities that welcome everyone like family. And for us, working alongside the ProMed EMS team made it even more rewarding — a great crew doing great work in a demanding environment.

We’re proud to have been there, ready when it mattered.
