The EcoSort facility receives all the Yellow Bin recycling from Christchurch where it is sorted, baled and sold as a reclaimed material.

Here is an update on the hazardous waste announcement fro yesterday.

Residents in the red zone are encouraged to take any hazardous waste they may have to Metro Place (off Dyers Road) EcoDrop (or Styx Mill Road if its closer)

In the news today with the Hon. Nick Smith announcing funding for red zone hazardous waste disposal. Our GM was also interviewed so both appearing on the news tonight!

Today, it was announced by the Hon. Dr Nick Smith that funding for the disposal of hazardous waste for the red zone Christchurch will be provided. The government has pledged $509,000 from the Waste minimisation fund to residents within the red zone to dispose of hazardous household waste safely.

Phonebooks are a useless relic of the past that have--against all odds--continued to waste space and destroy trees. At least one artist has at least found some beauty in them.

How many of us actually open the Yellow Pages delivered to the house?  Its always surprising how many we collect at EcoC...

How many of us actually open the Yellow Pages delivered to the house? Its always surprising how many we collect at EcoCentral still in the plastic they were delivered in. Having a scheme where you can opt in or opt out could be a great step forward to reducing how much we consume.

You may also be interested to know we have collected 130 Tonnes of Yellow Pages from the latest edition being distributed in Christchurch. This is enough to fill 6 x 40ft containers.

Been a while between posts (apologies!) but here is an interesting article on greening a city. Very pertinent for everyone who lives on planet earth.

It's a big city on a small island. It's growing fast despite having limited resources, providing a model for other cities to follow once limited resources become the norm around the world.
