As always happens when we have heavy rain, there is quite a bit of flooding at our pedestrian crossing this morning. We have phoned the CCC, and they're going to send a team to fix this. In the meantime, we suggest that you park on the school side of the road this morning and use one of the northernmost gates to access the school.

Please don't park and leave your car. When people respect the 3 min parking signage, everyone can drop off their children safely and easily.

Thanks for your help this morning.

What an amazing Spring Festival the Westburn community enjoyed last night!

Having the chance to celebrate the diversity of our community with food, dance, costume, and music was a wonderful way to launch into the last week or two of the school year.

Thank you to the families who shared their culture with us - and who prepared such delicious food. A special thanks to the organising committee, led by Mary McCance, who even organised beautiful weather fot the event.

Congratulations to our amazing students who performed at the Tūhono Festival yesterday, placing third overall and winning the haka and the 'novelty item' sections.

From the first moments when we were the only group to begin with a haka - initiated by our female lead - to the last, when our two eladers were the only team to congratulate the other leads on stage, we couldn't have been more proud of them.

Their effort, performance stamina, and dedication over the last year of rehearsals, culminated in a stunning performance that they can be very proud of.

Huge thanks to Matua Steve Reid and Mrs Nicole Dale for their expert leadership of our group.

And didn't they look fabulous in their new uniforms!

Thank you to the amazing team at WSCA for organising a fabulous kite day. The wind came just when we needed it, the sausages were delicious, and the food trucks were great too.
Thank you to everyone who played a part in making the day a success.
Special mention also to the brave and talented student musicians who provided entertainment throughout the afternoon. You were amazing!

What a fabulous assembly to end the term. We awarded badges to those who'd represented us in Gymnastics, Cross Country and Basketball, were entertained by the superb SMP Orchestra, acknowledged the Rocket Challenge team for their achievements this term, and drew the prizes for our Science Week competitions.

Singing our favourite E Tū Tāngata song was a great way to end the term.

Congratulations to everyone in Sheppard House, who won the term's House Challenge and will be rewarded with a longer morning tea next term.

Congratulations to the children who launched their rockets yesterday. This was rhe culmination of six weeks’ work with Mrs Woods and Westburn parent/UC Engineer, Enda Crossin.
The photo doesnt do justice to either the excitement or the success of the launches.

Congratulations to the students in our SMP class who performed at our first appraisal concert of the year this evening. They all played well and have obviously been working hard with their tutors.

A special thank you to Mr. Oswin and Mr Levings, and to our adjudicators, Dr Shepherd and Mr. Petch.

Congratulations also to students new to SMP this year who received their badge this evening.

We were privileged to have the Burnside High School Music Roadshow visit us today. Thank you to all of the groups for entertaining us so well - and especially to the three ex-Westburn students in the bands.

This morning a child walking to Westburn from the Grahams Rd roundabout was followed by a man who appeared to be photographing her. The man was a bald Caucasian in his 30s or 40s.

The student was concerned enough by his behaviour to tell us about it; we have reported it to the police.

We will maintain a presence along Waimairi Rd from the roundabout to the school for the next period. If you notice any suspicious behaviour in this area, we encourage you to report it to the police.

Police encourage parents to provide their child with a simple plan that they can remember and follow in circumstances when they feel uncomfortable or unsafe. The link below is to a resource on the NZ Police website which families can use as a reference. Although it’s been around for a while, the message in the resource hasn’t changed:

We encourage you to chat with your children about what to do if they are approached by someone on the way to or from school.
