Sometimes trees just outgrow their place in the garden. This one had very happily sent its roots down and although we could prune the top of the tree we couldn't uproot it, prune the roots and replant. After many years of hoping for an easier answer, a professional team solved the problem. We hope soon the fan palms underneath will enjoy the extra sun and grow into the space, along with the Spanish broom.

Twenty years after the name was repainted on the gate we are replacing the gateposts. The posts had rotted at ground level and were being held up by the fence and letterbox - not really able to fulfill their purpose of supporting the gate! New posts are coming and will have the 'trim' added to the top. We are not sure whether the Anderson's gate was moved along the road to the new driveway in the 1930s or whether it was new then. The metal hinges seem to have a solid look to them. The gatepost trims at the top may have been crafted by Ewart Smith.
