Another wonderful event hosted last night here in Cromwell, with visitors from far and wide coming to sample our Cromwell hospitality.
Our community board supports this and other events by way of a promotional grant. We think it’s a great investment for such wonderful events that bring so many people here and bring our town together to celebrate 🎆

On the eve of the Cromwell Street Party & Fireworks 2025 our BIGGEST THANK YOU goes to the ongoing support of the Cromwell Community Board Elected Members and the Central Otago District Council for making this event a reality!

Community + Connections = Celebration! 🎉 Can’t wait to see you all there!

I am coming to the end of my first term as a cromwell ward councillor & community board member, and standing for election to the council again this triennium.
Although it is challenging, I have loved the role and have gained a really solid understanding of how local government works (for and against us!) and how that affects our daily lives. I’d love the chance to keep up the momentum and represent cromwell for another term.

A bit about me:
I’m a pom (best to get that out of the way first eh) but almost a cromwell local having moved here in 2008. I grew up and studied in England but travelled after uni and only meant to stay in NZ for one ski season (that was 2004!).

I juggle a couple of part time jobs including council, the main one being as a draughtsperson. I spent my first 12 years here working at altitude, in the ski fields and at skyline gondola, including many years as the hospitality manager at Cardrona.

I have 4 very busy kids aged 7,9,11,14 across the 3 schools of Goldfields Primary, Cromwell College & Dunstan High School.

I am passionate about giving more than I take, and have a finger in many community pies! Over the course of the year you’ll find me helping/ organising/ coaching/ managing/ on the committee of hockey, athletics, netball and touch, and I coordinate the school skiing programmes for our local schools at Cardrona in the winter too.

I was a hockey player in my younger sporting days and have played for Cromwell on and off since 2008 as well as Central Otago at national league and masters for C.O & Otago.
Hockey is my passion and I am a past vice-president of Central Otago Hockey Association as well as a repeat offender with the Cromwell Hockey Club committee in various roles over the years, currently as Junior Club Coordinator. I am also a trustee on the Central Otago Sports Turf Trust.

I volunteer for Otago Hospice and am part of their biography service team where I am privileged to be able to help record and transcribe patient’s life stories for their families to keep.

I am a founding and ongoing member of the Cromwell Resilience Group, a volunteer component of Civil Defence Otago Emergency Management, where we aid the community in preparing for natural disasters or unprecedented events and faciliate an emergency hub in the event of such a disaster.

I am also a board member of the Southern Lakes AA (automobile association not Alcoholics Anonymous; I have 4 kids… sometimes I need a drink!).

Seeing kids thrive and participate, particularly in sport, is my real bucket filler and I love Central Otago for all that it offers our families. Bringing my kids up here makes me feel incredibly lucky.

Talking is one of my favourite hobbies according to my kids, and I love nothing better than a yarn in the supermarket aisle, much to their annoyance at times! But I’m always up for a chat, whatever the topic, and that’s one reason why the Council role is a great fit for me.

I’m strong willed and I’m loyal, and I stand up for what I believe in. I will call out poor behaviour and I will not tolerate people that do not treat each other with respect. I’m a team worker but also not afraid to go it alone.

I’m a fierce Cromwell ambassador!

Two of my favourite things to do… talk and drink, and with a bloody good view!
The BRAE, Tastings & Taps are kindly hosting an evening where you can come and ask us your curly questions or really get a feel for what the candidates are about.
Come up and hang out. We don’t even have to talk local body politics unless you want to!
See you there…

🗳️ Meet the Candidates at The Brae 🗳️

Want to know more about who’s standing to represent you? Got a question or just curious what they’re all about?

We’re hosting an informal “Meet the Candidates” evening — a chance to have a yarn, ask your questions, and get to know the people putting their hands up for this year's local elections.

No speeches, no stage — just good conversation in a relaxed setting.

📍 The Brae – Tastings & Taps
📅 Thursday 25 September
⏰ 5pm – 7pm

Grab a drink, pull up a chair, and join us. Everyone’s welcome.

Heads up that Waenga Drive will be closed in part between Alluvial Place & Antimony Cres, so it’s a Gair Ave/Jolly’s Rd detour for that time (Apr 28 - May 9)

Districtisation is back up for discussion at the council table, and CCB has a lot to say on the proposal! This is our submission to Council. It’s a lengthy read but worth it to understand CCB’s position. We see benefit to sharing the load for some infrastructure and facilities; but we’re very mindful of what the bigger picture may be. The Cromwell Community Board works hard to represent its residents and ensure Cromwell has the best deal for now but also the best outlook for the future and our children.

Honoured to lay a wreath at the Cromwell Cenotaph in this year’s Anzac service on behalf of the Cromwell Community Board today. A great turnout from the town, showing the respect for those who fought and died for our freedoms is still strong in our community.

Tonight 6:30-8:30! Please come along if someone from your household is available.
When the inevitable happens, it’ll be too late to make a plan… let’s get prepared so we can get through and help each other.
Hopefully see you there

❗️Cromwell Community Response Group ⚠️
PUBLIC MEETING - CROMWELL - Wednesday 3 April 2024
HOT TOPIC: How prepared are we really? 🙄

When an inevitable emergency event impacts Cromwell, can we as a community, function for 7 or more days while waiting for critical infrastructure to be repaired?
If we can’t stay in our homes, where do we go? What support can we expect from local or central government…or are we on our own?

Just some of the many questions communities around New Zealand, including Cromwell, have been asking themselves, especially since the 2023 Auckland Floods and the impact of Cyclone Gabrielle on the North Island’s East Coast.
Many of these questions can be answered at a public meeting:
WHEN: Wednesday, 3 April 2024, 6.30pm – 8.30pm
WHERE: Cromwell Presbyterian Church, 10 Elspeth Street, Cromwell

We're also interested in establishing a Cromwell Civil Defence Community Response Group (CRG). This is made up of community members who will be trained to be prepared to activate in the event that they need to support their communities, in ways that are also specific to Cromwell, working in with Emergency Management Otago. These also operate in Queenstown Lakes. If you are willing to volunteer to help form a local Cromwell CRG please come along to the meeting.

Cheers

Unless it is absolutely essential, please delay travel between Alex & Cromwell. The Hawksburn Road isn’t a viable alternative for most. Please be safe on the roads
