ROCKER Review - Thank you PFK!!!

This week, we are celebrating and thanking our amazing PFK team. They have generously funded some fantastic new decodable text series for our middle school students. These highly engaging texts have been a huge hit, and our children are loving reading them!

The new series will help us continue to strengthen and expand our structured literacy resources across the school, and they are greatly appreciated by both teachers and students.

Our PFK members are always willing to put in the hard mahi to provide extra opportunities and resources for our tamariki. We are incredibly grateful for their ongoing support and dedication. Please support them whenever and wherever you can — every contribution makes a difference!

ROCKER Review - This week we are sharing some magic! These amazing tuna have been a special part of our school for many years. Every time we visit, they hear us coming and we can hear them splashing up the culvert to greet us. We love watching them feed on our special treats, talking to them, and showing kindness and respect towards them.

There is so much joy in connecting with and embracing nature here at Ruahine School.

ROCKER Review - Today was a beautiful day for our ROCKERS to compete in the Interschool Cross Country at the Showgrounds. The course was very challenging, so lots of resilience was needed. We are so proud of every one of our children and know they made us and their whānau proud. Thanks Kelly and Kym for taking our group and Whaea Izelle for organising everyone. A massive shout out to our awesome parent helpers too!!!!

Pink Shirt Day 2026! 💗

Our little school turned pink today as we celebrated Pink Shirt Day and were reminded of the importance of sticking together, showing kindness, and treating others the way we would like to be treated.

A huge thank you to Kelly and our Year 8 leaders for their awesome organisation and leadership throughout the day! Ka pai everyone!

ROCKER Review - Cross Country 2026. What a beautiful day it has been for our annual Cross Country! The grass was long, the mud was oozy, and the water was crisp, but our ROCKERS competed with endurance, sportsmanship, and energy. Thank you to our amazing community for coming along to support our tamariki and cheer everyone on at the finish line. Thanks to Whaea Izelle for all your organisation.

Ka pai tō mahi, Ruahine ROCKERS!

ROCKER Review - Wider Curriculum
This week we are showcasing some amazing mahi our tamariki are doing in our wider curriculum. Each week, the school continues to develop our kapa haka skills with Ngātiria and Kaia. Tamariki are learning both new and familiar waiata while developing teamwork, rhythm, and performance skills.

Team Pounamu is working with Te Whare Taiao o Rangitāne each fortnight during our wider curriculum learning around Our Living World. This week, we were like scientists and used observation skills to observe four different plants found in our environment — mānuka, koromiko, kawakawa, and harakeke. We learnt what they look like and what they can be used for. We even saw a piece of harakeke being made into a rope! It was truly magic!

In Kupe Team their wider curriculum has been focussed on evaluating how humans interact with and impact ecosystems and classification of animals and plants. One of the most exciting things for our middle school people has been learning about microorganisms.

We are incredibly fortunate to live in a rural community where people are so willing to share their knowledge, skills, and experiences with our tamariki.

ROCKER Review - At Ruahine School all our Year 8’s form the ‘Student Leadership Team’ and are role models for the rest of the school. Each Year 8 is a member of one of our leadership teams. Our three leadership teams are:

Admin Team

Enviro Team

Public Relations Team

The members of these teams change every term so that students get to take on and experience different roles. A Team Leader leads each team and organises, delegates and encourages others to ensure that their team is doing a good job.

We are very impressed with the Year 8 leaders this year. Keep up the great mahi!!!

On Friday, Ruahine School held its ANZAC remembrance around the cenotaph.
Classes laid wreaths, and the national anthem was sung. Major Richard Short spoke to us about the ongoing impact the losses of war have on families and communities.
On Saturday, Tegan, Pippa, and William laid our school wreath at the civic service. The students in uniform represented Ruahine school with respect and dignity. Kia ora.
