Happy National Volunteer Week to all our volunteers!

We've seen over the past few days how vital our volunteers are to the fire and emergency services in New Zealand. Here are a few stats from our Hidden in Plain Sight report highlighting their importance.

In the words of UFBA CEO, Bill Butzbach "It is clear they are a taonga, a treasure and as a nation, we need to protect and preserve them. The sacrifices our volunteers make cannot be taken for granted."

Last Saturday night the brigade held its annual honours night. Congratulations to all the recipients.

The Dipton Brigade Skytower team would like to thank all our supporters who helped us raise $13,408 for the charity Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand. That effort made us the 34 th highest fundraising brigade in New Zealand.

On the 18 May a team of 5 from the Dipton brigade tackled the Firefighter Skytower challenge. All five climbed the 1103 steps up the 51 floors in full firefighting gear and breathing apparatus. The team were Ian Ussher, Craig Jackson, Carlo Scheepers, Xavier Trusler, and Lynden Prebble

The brigade’s medical team spent the day doing their 6 monthly refresher. The day was very well lead by Shelley and Cat from St John’s. Topics covered included patient assessments, high performance CPR, and drugs and their uses and administration. A great day with plenty of practical hands on training.

Great effort this afternoon by brigade members to do 36 cubic metres of firewood for the Skytower challenge fundraiser. Special thanks to non brigade members Gordy, Lachy, Jake and Sam for their help, plus Christy for afternoon tea and Megan for the BBQ tea.

At last Monday nights training we tested our newish portable pump against our old Tohatsu pushing water from a pond up about 25 metres vertical at the local golf club. We also relayed pumped with both.
