Brunner Volunteer Fire Brigade would like to extend a massive thank you to the wider West Coast community for getting behind our firewood raffle and helping us raise over $5,000.

With the support of our community, we raffled off 10 trailer loads of firewood and delivered more than 30 cubic metres to our lucky winners. The generosity and support shown throughout this fundraiser has been outstanding, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who purchased tickets, helped spread the word, supported the deliveries, and contributed in any way.

The funds raised will go directly towards supporting our brigade’s competition teams as they compete both at home and away around the South Island. They will also help us recognise the service and commitment of our members, support wellbeing initiatives and programmes, and contribute to community-based events here in our local area.

As a volunteer brigade, the support of our community means a great deal. Fundraisers like this help us invest in our people, strengthen our team, and continue giving back to the community that supports us.

BRUNNER VOLUNTEER FIRE BRIGADE FIREWOOD RAFFLE

We’re giving our local community another opportunity to get their raffle tickets!

On Thursday 8 October, we’ll be setting up our raffle table at Brunner Fire Station, 4 Manawatu Street, Dobson, from 5:30pm to 7:00pm.

We know that many people in our community work shifts, weekends or simply haven’t been able to catch us when we’ve had our raffle tables out in town, so we’re opening the station for an evening to give you another chance to grab your tickets.

The raffle prize is 3 cubic metres of split radiata pine firewood — perfect for getting you stocked up for next winter.

Tickets are:
$2 each
3 for $5

Come down, say hello to the crew and grab yourself a few tickets while supporting your local volunteer fire brigade.

⏰ As daylight savings arrives, we want you to check your smoke alarms

Every second person who dies in a house fire is over 60 🚨

To give yourself and your older family, friends and neighbours the earliest possible warning, you need smoke alarms installed in every bedroom, hallway and living area.

One of the most commonly overlooked places for a smoke alarm is the bedroom. When you’re asleep, you can’t smell smoke, but smoke alarms can and they’ll wake you up if a fire gets started – so you can get out fast.

✅ Test your smoke alarms by pressing the middle/red button
✅ Check they're less than 10 years old
✅ Install alarms in every bedroom, hallway and living area

Brunner Volunteer Fire Brigade Firewood Raffle

This Sunday, 16th of August, the Brunner Volunteer Fire Brigade will be at Mitre 10 from 9:30am selling tickets for our firewood raffle.

We have 3 cubic metre trailer loads of split radiata pine up for grabs.

Tickets are $2 each, or 3 for $5.

Funds raised from the raffle will go towards:

• Participating in regional and national events
• Supporting brigade and community activities
• Supporting the wellbeing of our firefighters
• Recognising the service and commitment of our volunteers

We will also be out and about at other locations across the community over the coming months, giving everyone more opportunities to grab a ticket and support the brigade.

Come along to Mitre 10 this Sunday, grab your tickets and support your local volunteer fire brigade.

If you heard chainsaws firing up around Brunner this morning, there’s a good reason for it! 🪵🚒

Our members have been busy preparing for our upcoming firewood raffle, and we thought we’d share a sneak peek of the work that has been happening behind the scenes.

We’re also grateful for the support we’ve received from within our local community to help make this fundraiser possible.

Tickets will be $2 each or 3 for $5, and once everything is ready you’ll see our volunteers out and about selling tickets at local supermarkets, Mitre 10, and around the community.

As a volunteer brigade, we’re proud to give our time to serve our community when we’re needed most. Fundraising like this helps us support the people behind the pager through firefighter wellbeing initiatives, recognising long service and commitment, supporting brigade and community activities, and assisting members who represent our brigade at regional and national events.

A strong brigade is built on strong people, and every ticket sold helps us continue supporting the volunteers who give their time to keep our community safe.

🔥 Chimney Fire Safety Reminder 🔥

As the colder months set in, it’s a good time to make sure your fireplace is safe to use.

If your fire has been extra smoky when you light it, or it’s been a few years since your chimney was last cleaned, it might be time to get it checked.

A build-up of soot and ash in your chimney can cause chimney fires, which are dangerous and can spread quickly.

Stay safe and keep warm this winter; get your chimney checked and cleaned if needed.

Happy Birthday Rob

A big shout-out to our Chief Fire Officer, Rob Lunn.
Since stepping into the Chief role back in 1988, Rob has been a constant for the Brunner Volunteer Fire Brigade and the Dobson community. Through all the changes over the years, his leadership, support, and steady presence have never wavered.

Rob is always there for his crew, backing his people and leading from the front, and that’s a big part of why he’s so well respected both within the brigade and out in the community.

We’re lucky to have you, Rob. Wishing you a great day and a well-deserved celebration.
