On Saturday, ‘Watercolours’ won the Regional Final of the Smokefree RockQuest competition in Palmerston North. The band is made up of five students, two being from Feilding High School - Aidan Robinson and James Nicholson. The band performed two original songs “ Maybe” and “Loose Ends”. This is a major achievement for these students! They now must submit a three-song video to apply to perform and compete at the National Competition later this year.

Former Feilding High School student, Zac McLean also won the APRA Lyrics Writer Award - Congratulations Zac.

Last week we were lucky enough to receive the delivery of our new container. With our growing football programme we were running out of room for the teams for storage. The new container will serve as a storage space for the equipment and the existing football shed will be renovated and turned into a football ‘den’ for the 1st XI’s with seats and a whiteboard and hooks for interschool exchanges. A massive thank you to Citi-Box Containers for their heavily discounted container and to McIntosh Cranes for the speedy delivery. Finally as always a huge thank you to our football sponsors, City Honda Manawatu, Sparky’s On Time, Maintain it rentals Limited and John Turkington LTD for their gracious support.

Progress is slowly but surely being made on our Art classroom mural, “Dream Current.” The concept behind the mural explores the idea of creativity as a current that carries us, like fish drifting through a shared ocean of imagination. Since the beginning of Term 1, students have been dedicating two afternoons a week after school, as well as giving up parts of their weekends, to chip away at this mammoth extracurricular project. We are still a long way from completion, but as the saying goes, good things take time.
A huge shout out to our incredibly talented and dedicated artists Stella Sexton, Ellie Henderson, Sophie Petterson, Katherine Butts, Lani Brown, and Nat Mellish for the countless hours they have poured into bringing this vision to life. Also, a massive thank you to Mrs Lemmen for cutting all of the wood into our very specific shapes and helping make this ambitious project possible.

Year 10 Visual Art students have finished their incredible wearable hybrid creature masks, and the results are wonderfully surreal. Using the creature concepts they developed earlier this year through drawing and paintings, students transformed their creatures into large-scale 3D wearable artworks. Throughout the project they investigated mask-making techniques, developed detailed planning pages full of sketches, annotations, media experiments, and construction ideas. Congratulations Year 10 Crew!
