🏃♂️ Galatea School Fun Run Event 2026! 🌈
Dear Parents and Whānau,
Get ready for an exciting change! This year, we are shaking things up and running a spectacular Galatea School Fun Run in place of our regular annual cross-country event. We are transforming our rugby field into an action-packed course filled with obstacles, a ground-based cargo net, a spiral run, and massive bursts of colourful paint powder!
Our main goals for this event are:
To increase participation and get every single student involved.
To provide a competitive element for our tamariki who want to challenge themselves, push their limits, and achieve their personal best.
To make learning fun!
📅 Key Details:
When: Friday 19th June. Start time 10am with our youngest students up first!
Postponement Date: Monday 22nd June
Where: Galatea School Grounds
What to wear: We will be using coloured paint powder at points to add a splash of colour and fun to this event so a white or light colour t-shirt is a must!
Please note: Students will be running in their specific year levels on the day. A full timetable will be shared with whānau prior to the event so you know exactly when your child will be taking the field! We will also need help with marshalling at specific points.
We are also thrilled to announce that we have invited our local Te Urewera Cluster schools to come along and join in on the fun, making it a wonderful community celebration.
Because the entire event is being held right here on our school grounds, you won't miss a single moment of the action! Whānau are warmly invited to come along, find a great vantage point, watch their children compete for the entire event, and cheer our amazing tamariki on.
🎓 Curriculum Connections: Why We Are Doing This!
This event isn't just about fun and paint—it is a deeply integrated learning experience aligned directly with Phase 1–2 of the New Zealand Health and Physical Education Curriculum:
Strand A: Personal Health and Physical Development (Regular Physical Activity)
Our tamariki will experience a creative and highly enjoyable physical activity, helping them directly connect movement with a positive sense of personal well-being.
Strand B: Movement Concepts and Motor Skills (Movement Skills & Positive Attitudes)
By tackling the obstacles, cargo nets, and the spiral run, students will develop and practice a wide range of gross motor skills in a play-focused environment. It encourages a willingness to accept physical challenges, learn how to pace themselves, and extend their personal capabilities.
Strand C & D: Relationships with Other People & Healthy Communities
Hosting our Te Urewera Cluster schools allows our students to practice manaakitanga, demonstrating respect and interpersonal skills as they participate in a major communal event that enhances the well-being of our wider community.
We can't wait to see you there for a day of colour, community, and personal triumphs! Please contact us if you require any more information.
