Glacier Kayaking. They are wonderful trips. The journeys take in some incredible scenery and are really quite awe-inspiring. All our boats are double sea kayaks and are fitted with outriggers on both sides for perfect stability. We call these “Floaties”. Trips depart from The Old Mountaineers’ Café, Restaurant & Bar (next door to the DOC visitor information centre). Can you let us know your contact details and where you will be staying while in the Aoraki Mount Cook area. The Tasman Glacier Lake: 3-4 hours
Minimum number: 3

This trip is an adventure for the kayaker and provides an opportunity to meet ice bergs face to face. New Zealand’s longest glacier winds its way down the Southern Alps for nearly 30km before culminating at the terminal lake. The transition from glacier to lake produces impressive icebergs on a regular basis; this truly is ‘big berg country’. We have limited seats. Early bookings are essential on this spectacular adventure. You will need to bring the following:

1 Sun hat
2 Sun glasses
3 Warm clothing (just in case there is a cool breeze)
4 Suncream
5 Sturdy shoes. (runners etc)
6 Camera
7 Wind shell

Well it was a perfect day on the Glacier Kayaking first day of the season trip today. Sunny skies, no wind and lots of ice bergs with snow capped peaks - Aoraki Mount Cook dominating the view. Couldn't be better.

The Tasman Glacier Lake, the colour of the water comes from super-fine particles of rock dust which have been ground up by centuries of glacial movement.
And those pontoons on the back of the kayaks are there to stop the boat tipping, that water is pretty cold!

A beaut day ahead and some good glacier skiing to be had! Lots of snow around the village to play in so bring the family up before it all melts in the next few days.
Don't put those skis away yet. Ski the Tasman Glacier will be operating all of October for spring skiing. Tick it off the bucket list with us.
