Mitey Teacher Only Day – Friday 23 October, Term 4

A 'heads up' to our whānau that Ilminster Intermediate will be closed for instruction on Friday 23 October as our staff take part in a dedicated Mitey Teacher Only Day.

Mitey, developed by the Sir John Kirwan Foundation, is a school-wide approach to mental health education designed for tamariki in Years 1–8. It supports young people to develop the knowledge, skills and strategies they need to understand and manage their mental health and wellbeing, build positive relationships, cope with challenges and know when and how to seek support.

The purpose of this Teacher Only Day is to grow our teachers’ understanding of Mitey and begin the process of preparing for its implementation across Ilminster Intermediate in 2027. Staff will spend the day learning about the Mitey approach, exploring its resources and considering how it can be meaningfully embedded within our existing Hauora, wellbeing and learning programmes.

Supporting the wellbeing of our rangatahi is an important part of helping them succeed both at school and beyond. We want our students to have the skills and confidence to manage challenges, understand themselves and others, develop strong relationships and approach the future with resilience.

We appreciate the support and understanding of our whānau in providing this important professional learning opportunity for our staff and look forward to sharing more about our Mitey journey as we move towards 2027.
