This year we sadly are unable to host a Big Latch On event due to Covid 19 but here in Tairāwhiti we are still celebrating 'World Breastfeeding Week' with a week long Virtual Latch On: A Breastfeeding Selfie Competition!

Join us all you breastfeeding Mamas!
The theme this year is 'Breastfeeding for a healthier planet'
Here's how to enter, it's so easy!

2. Post a Breastfeeding Selfie of you and your baby on our page and maybe tell us how you think breastfeeding makes our planet a healthier one.

All entries go into the draw to win some awesome prizes from our breastfeeding friendly Tairāwhiti businesses.

1st 20 entries get the gift of a native tree thanks to the generosity and the mahi of Women's Native Tree Project Trust.

We are aware that Covid 19 has not been kind to our local businesses so to say thank you to those who have supported our mother friendly Tairāwhiti initiative in the past we are using the event hosting funding to purchase the prizes rather than asking for donations. (Funding provided by Houora Tairāwhiti)

T&CS:
Open to mothers living in Tairāwhiti district.
Winners announced on Facebook and via Personal message during the week following the competition.
By sending in your photo you give us permission to display it on the page as well as for any other breastfeeding promotions within Tairāwhiti.
All prizes are to be collected from the address provided by the 30th August 2020.

Hello Mums & Dads.
You may read in the NZ herald or our local paper that there was recently a complaint made about our website to the Advertising Standards Authority. We responded to the complaint and made some changes to the website which were accepted by the authority and the case was closed.

The complainant was unhappy about the way that MamaPukeko advertised amber necklaces as being useful for relieving pain and other symptoms associated with teething. As there is no scientific evidence of this, it broke the advertising rules and therefore I have changed the wording on the site. They also complained that we had set out to mislead parents and were offering unsafe advice and were acting in a socially irresponsible manner. Since my life's work is focused on the well-being of parents and babies, this would never be my intention.

While there may be no scientific evidence on how amber works or what it does , we know that there are a lot of happy parents with stories of how you believe the amber has helped your babies during teething!

By putting it on the website, this helps other parents make up their own minds about amber and as it would meet that advertising rules, it would stop busy bodies making complaints in the future.

Come along and get the girls out for the Big Latch On 2013 at PBC café 1874, brought to you by Gisborne Wairoa Plunket.
We will be meeting at 9.30 am with the big latch at 10.30 am.
We will also have a few guest speakers talking a little about the troubles and triumphs of breastfeeding from 10am and will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
