INQUIRY CELEBRATION / HOUSE DAY!
We finished last week with our end of unit inquiry celebration. The unit of learning was focused on "The magic of learning: How I learn best". Students explored different styles of learning, positive habits for learning and how the key competencies improve our ability to learn across contexts. Throughout the unit students developed a deep understanding of why learning is important and how they can maximise their learning and growth in any situation.
The end of unit celebration involved students working in teams to overcome a set number of 'fun' challenges. To overcome the challenge - they needed to use the 5 key competencies effectively.

These are:

Thinking
Relating to others.
Participating and contributing.
Using language, symbols and text.
Managing self.

Whanau were invited to participate alongside their children - a key strategic goal for us here at Ormond. It was amazing to see so many whanau at the event - dressed in their child's house colours and engaged with their child's education.
A huge thank you to all our staff for their teaching and learning within this kaupapa across the year and especially to Mrs Thompson who put together the final event - one the kids will remember for sure!

GETTING PHYSICAL
Pohutukawa has been getting active every morning - using skipping as a vehicle to prepare the mind and body for the day ahead. Not only is this a great workout for our kids, it also gets them into the perfect space for learning, helps regulate emotions and builds a growth mindset (I can learn and improve) that can then be applied to future challenges across a schooling context. Good job Pohutukawa!

Today we celebrated Pink Shirt Day, and it was wonderful to see so many students making the effort to wear pink and show their support. During this morning’s assembly, Mr Hooks spoke to the children about the meaning behind Pink Shirt Day and why it is so important.

Pink Shirt Day is a nationwide movement that promotes kindness, inclusion, and respect, while standing up against bullying. It encourages everyone to create safe, supportive environments where all people feel valued and accepted for who they are. We are proud of the way our students embraced this important message today and showed their commitment to caring for one another.

GROWING GREAT PEOPLE...
Well done to these amazing students who gained the most dojo points across the last fortnight, in their respective classrooms. These points are given to students who are demonstrating our school values, displaying the key competencies, and being great role models at school. Here they are enjoying their special Principals morning tea...

Wear your pink shirt and bring a gold coin donation to support the Pink Shirt Day Foundation. Together we can help stop bullying by speaking up, standing together, and spreading kindness in our community.

Morena everyone,

Due to several staff absent with illness, please NO Motors today for wheels day.

This decision has been made due to reduced personnel, meaning reduced ability to run the day in a safe manner.

Safety is always our priority in events like this.

Bikes, scooters, skateboards, roller-blades etc are still all welcome - just no motors.

Thanks for your understanding.

Nga mihi,

Shane Hooks
