Mayors Taskforce For Jobs - Grey District The Mayors Taskforce for Jobs programme helps youth between the ages of 16-24 into education, training or employment

The Mayors Taskforce for Jobs (MTFJ) is a nationwide network of New Zealand’s Mayors, working together towards the vision of all young people 16-25 engaged in employment, education, training, or other positive activity in their communities.

Morgan started working at Total Glass
in Greymouth three months ago, and hasn’t looked back.

“The people are really nice and supportive, and every day I am learning new stuff.”

He is one of 44 young people the Mayor’s Taskforce for Jobs (MTFJ) Grey District has supported into employment in the year to June.

Mayor Tania Gibson encouraged more employers to reach out before beginning their recruitment process.

“We work with many supportive local employers. While times are challenging, we can provide support not only to young people entering employment, but also to businesses willing to give them an opportunity.

“This support can include assistance with driver licensing and essential tools, as well as access to government funding and incentives for eligible employers.”

Staff have worked alongside many businesses for years, helping them fill vacancies while supporting young people to successfully enter the workforce.

Many of our young people are not yet work-ready and need support and encouragement as they take their first steps into employment. Through the Mayor’s Taskforce for Jobs, we have the opportunity to help them build confidence, develop workplace skills, and connect with meaningful employment.

If you are an employer or young person who would like to learn more about the programme, please email [email protected] or visit the Grey District Council website and follow the Mayor’s Taskforce for Jobs link.

One of the best parts of our job is getting out and about, visiting our young people and seeing how they’re going in their workplaces! 🙌

Today, we were lucky enough to visit Jari at Devine Engineering with our Mayor, and we couldn’t be prouder of Jari and his commitment to his job.

Jari has been with Devine Engineering for the past six months and is absolutely smashing it! His team couldn’t rave about him enough, and it was fantastic to hear how well he has settled into the workplace and how much he has grown in confidence and skills.

In the next few weeks, Jari will take the exciting next step and sign on to his apprenticeship.

A huge thank you to the team at Devine Engineering 2021 Ltd for giving Jari the opportunity to learn, grow and build a career.
