At Thursday's Hamilton City Council meeting, we made some important decisions about fees and charges for the coming financial year:

🚗 reintroduced 2 hours’ free on street parking in the central city from 1 July, and agreed to remove the green and yellow parking zones
🌹 approved an increase to the Enclosed Gardens entry fee at Hamilton Gardens for visitors from outside the city from 1 October, while keeping entry free for Hamilton residents and children under 16.

We also agreed next steps for local government reform in the Waikato region.

Here’s Mayor Tim Macindoe with more details.

1.30pm:
Our crews have now repaired the Kahikatea and Wickham pipe bursts in Frankton and water supply should have returned to normal. Works continue in Hamiton East, with the final few properties expected to be returned to service by around 4pm.

It never rains but it pours! Thanks for your patience and for the efforts of our crews across the city today.

10.45am:
Our crews report the Kahikatea repair is more difficult and complex than first thought and ETA for returning service for this one is now around 1pm. Thanks for your patience while we resolve this and please take extra care if travelling in the area.

8am:
Our crews are attending two burst water mains in Frankton this morning, one near 84 Kahikatea Drive and one on Wickham Street causing water outages for some residents and businesses.

We are working with directly-affected people but repairs are likely to take three to four hours. Water has spilled onto roadways and traffic management is in place for the safety of our crews in the area.

Please take alternate routes where possible.

Jim Beam Homegrown’s first year in Kirikiriroa Hamilton has been a huge win for our city!

More than 25,000 people came together for an unforgettable day of Kiwi music and brought nearly $10 million into the local economy. The impact was felt from Claudelands to the central city and beyond, with 95% of attendees loving the experience and 93% of locals feeling proud to host it 🙌

It took a massive team effort to bring it all to life. From Homegrown organisers and partners to suppliers, local businesses and the wider Hamilton community. And this is just the beginning!
