Riverlea Kindergarten Riverlea Kindergarten is a registered Early Childhood Education Centre in the heart of Hillcrest.

Cambridge Road Community Kindergarten is a registered Early Childhood Education centre. We are licensed for up to 20 children per session, with trained qualified staff who are employed by the management committee, which is made up of parents of the attending children. As parents of children attending you are able to apply and become members of our Incorporated Society. We exist to meet your needs and offer you an early childhood centre, which is a safe, fun place to learn and a comfortable, friendly environment where we hope you can feel at home. We have an enthusiastic elected parent Committee who handle the finances, organise any fundraising, pay staff wages and ensure we are fulfilling the goals specified in our Charter. The Committee tries to keep fundraising to a minimum but really appreciates your support when we do undertake activities. The committee meets for a couple of hours per month and is an enjoyable way to become part of the centre and get to know other parents. Just tell a committee member or staff if you are interested in joining the committee.

We are looking forward to returning from term break with our latest projects complete! šŸŽ‰
Our tamariki will be excited to discover a deluxe mud kitchen and a performance stage—perfect for singing, dancing and letting their imaginations shine. šŸŽ¶šŸ’ƒšŸ•ŗ
As a not-for-profit kindergarten, we are proud that our funding goes directly back into what matters most — our tamariki. This means investing in our teaching team, quality resources and creating engaging spaces and experiences that support children’s learning, creativity and development.
We can’t wait to see the creativity, joy and fun these new spaces bring to our tamariki! ā¤ļø

This is what the current government is proposing.
Children deserve quality teachers, and quality teachers deserve to be valued.
Reducing these standards will affect the quality of your children’s care and education.
It is heartbreaking to watch this happen after so much progress was made under the Labour Government.
We need to invest in and value the first 1,000 days!

Very concerning times for ECE!
Parents need to know.

The proposed changes to funding within Early Childhood Education (ECE) will have a wide-reaching effect on everyone who accesses ECE or works as a qualified registered teacher, especially those working in not-for-profit centres (such as kindergartens) or those who actively and intentional hire 100% qualified teachers.

What is clear is that education is not valued in the right way by the current government, with special focus on changing the ECE landscape despite research that supports just how vital education in the early years is!

The impact of these proposed changes will have a substantial effect on the fully qualified with bachelor's degrees, fully registered teachers, some of us may lose our jobs - especially if they remove the funding provided for 100% qualified teachers, others could be paid minimum wage with the removal of ALL pay parity (so not just pay parity between private and public ECE, but the pay parity that Kindergarten has with primary).

We have a world leading ECE Curriculum, yet it feels that we’re not worthy of being called teachers, our bachelor's degrees are not held in high regard, and we can simply be replaced by the untrained, unqualified and inexperienced.

This government believes that your children, your grandchildren, your great grandchildren and your mokopuna are not worthy of qualified teachers, or of sufficient funding to do our jobs.

This government and the funding review are not even looking at the mass amounts of profit that are being made by large private ECE companies in this country.

We love our jobs! We love TEACHING your tamariki, supporting & helping them grow into strong capable learners but if this government is elected again, it is highly possible that all of this will change, and quickly too.

You and your tamariki matter to us, and because of this we strongly encourage you to enrol to vote (and please vote), ask questions and talk to people about the impact this could have on your whānau and the people that matter to you.

What an amazing, special place we have here in Hillcrest. ā¤ļøLicenced for 20 children.
