Did you know Trust Waikato's commitment to preserving our region's stories extends beyond funding communities?

Since 1999, Trust Waikato has collected art and taonga of significance to the Waikato region, building a remarkable collection that reflects our people, places and heritage.

In 2015, the collection, 260 artworks and taonga, were gifted to Te Whare Taonga o Waikato Museum & Gallery, ensuring these treasures could be cared for, shared and enjoyed by the community for generations to come.

The collection lives on through the book Treasures of the Waikato, which showcases the artworks and taonga held in the Trust Waikato collection

✨ Last Friday, we were honoured to attend and celebrate the opening of Te Pae o Hiwa, the new Performance, Health and Wellbeing Centre at Hamilton Girls' High School.

A place where aspirations can flourish, resilience can grow, and young waahine can be empowered to reach their summits. Trust Waikato (alongside many other funders) are proud to support projects that strengthen our communities today and for future generations.

🌿 A Century of Community Service
Since 1914, Trust House at 2 London Street, Kirikiriroa Hamilton, has been part of our region's story. What began as a family home more than 100 years ago is now the home of Trust Waikato, continuing a long legacy of serving people and strengthening communities.

Situated on whenua that was once Ngaati Wairere's Kirikiriroa Paa, we acknowledge the history of this place and the generations connected to it.

🌱 Celebrating Trustee Ken Williamson's Well-Deserved Honour

Trust Waikato is incredibly proud to celebrate Trustee Ken Williamson, KStJ, QSM, JP, who today received national recognition from Her Excellency the Rt Hon Dame Cindy Kiro, Governor-General of New Zealand, ONZM for his outstanding service to governance and the community.

This well-deserved honour reflects Ken's longstanding commitment, leadership and dedication to making a positive difference across our region.

A respected business mentor and long-serving volunteer, Ken has held significant governance, leadership and fundraising roles throughout his career. Through decades of service, he has helped strengthen organisations, support local initiatives and create lasting positive impact for countless people across Waikato and beyond.

We are privileged to have Ken as part of the Trust Waikato whaanau and are delighted to see his dedication, leadership and contribution to our communities recognised in this way.

🌱 Learning, Connection and Shared Koorero with International Students.

We had the pleasure of welcoming international students from Wintec to Trust Waikato.

It was an opportunity to share our purpose and our commitment to supporting vibrant and resilient communities across our rohe. Together, we enjoyed a short tour of the area, exploring the significance of the whenua and the cultural values that guide our mahi every day.

The visit also provided an opportunity to discuss the role of philanthropy in Aotearoa New Zealand, how community funding helps create positive impact, and the importance of building strong relationships with the communities we serve.

Ngaa mihi nui to Wintec for creating meaningful opportunities for international students to connect with organisations across the region and gain a deeper understanding of the community sector.

It was a privilege to show manaakitanga, share perspectives, and build connections through learning and shared koorero.

We wish the students all the very best in their studies and future endeavours. 🌱

🌿Trust Waikato recognised as a Responsible Investor 2026
We’re proud to share that Trust Waikato has been recognised as a Responsible Investor 2026 by the Responsible Investment Association Australasia (RIAA) and were presented with a certificate by RIAA Co-CEO Dean Hegarty at the 2026 RIAA Conference in Auckland this week.

The conference was an opportunity to hear and learn from many engaging speakers, including one of our own Trustees, Glenda Taituha-Toka who was on the panel for the “Unlocking Aotearoa’s impact capital pipeline” workshop.

Our Responsible Investor recognition reflects our commitment to investing responsibly and managing the Trust’s assets in a way that supports both long-term financial sustainability and positive outcomes for our communities.

📢Trust Waikato Welcomes New Trustees
Associate Minister of Finance Hon Shane Jones recently announced 25 appointments and reappointments across nine of Aotearoa New Zealand's 12 community trusts, including the appointment of four new trustees to Trust Waikato.

Trust Waikato is pleased to welcome Blair Currie, Christine Hall, Andrew Peckham and Chris Williams to its Board.

As Trust Waikato welcomes new trustees, we also acknowledge and gives thanks to three longstanding trustees: Janise Eketone, Chris Flatt and Anjum Rahman.

We thank our outgoing trustees for their dedicated service and valuable contribution to Trust Waikato and the communities we serve, and warmly welcome our new trustees as they begin their governance journey with us.
