ALWAYS shake your child's inhaler before you use it. The canister contains medicine and aerosol which SPLIT while resting, and need to be MIXED before using.
Shake the whole inhaler - do not remove the canister and just shake that.
DO NOT shake both the inhaler and the spacer together. It's best the spacer remains still and the inhaler gets a good shake.
Remember to shake the inhaler again if you are taking more than 1 puff.

Accuhalers and Turbuhalers are dry powder inhalers. Unlike aerosol puffers, they deliver medicine in the form of a very fine, loose powder. Bathrooms naturally accumulate high levels of heat and moisture from showers, baths, and sinks.
The moisture in the air will get inside the device and cause the dry medicine powder to clump together. This leads to incomplete doses and device clogging.
We recommend a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and the lid or mouth piece firmly closed inbetween usage.

Always remember to take your inhalers with your even if it's just for one night up the road with friends or whānau.

We recommend replacing your spacer every 6-12 months if you are using it regularly. Always check it for cracks, cloudiness, damage or if the valve isnt working properly. Replace it if you notice any problems.

From September 1st 2026, ALL children from 6 months old until their 5th birthday are eligible for a free flu vaccine.
The 2026 influenza season has seen high rates of influenza-related hospitalisations among children under five years, who are at greater risk of severe illness than other age groups.

For children with asthma, protection from flu is especially important as respiratory infections can trigger asthma symptoms and flare-ups.
Book your vaccine with Pharmacies, Medical Centres or Community Health Care Providers.

Sitting or standing is the best position for children taking their inhalers. Chin up so the spacer is horizontal.

Asthma symptoms can flare when preventer inhaler doses are missed. It's important to know how many doses are in the inhaler, and when it's going to be empty.
When you start a NEW inhaler write the finish date on the canister, or in your calendar on your phone with an alarm notifying you a few days in advance, or where ever you find helpful.
