We’re Hiring – I‑Endorsed Driving Instructor (30 hrs/week)

HMS TRUST is proud to support diverse communities across Aotearoa for over 25 years. Through our community driving school Passport2Drive, we remove barriers to driver licencing and create safer, more independent futures.

We’re now looking for an experienced I‑Endorsed Driving Instructor to join Passport2Drive as part of our new youth‑focused initiative Driving Change in the Community.

About the role
You’ll work with school students and young people aged 16–24, supporting them to progress to Restricted and Full licences. This is a permanent role (30 hours per week) within a supportive, values‑driven team making a real difference in road safety and employment outcomes.
You’ll bring:
✅ NZTA / Waka Kotahi I‑Endorsement
✅ Full NZ Driver Licence
✅ Experience working with youth and/or culturally diverse communities
✅ A calm, patient, learner‑centred teaching style
✅ Confidence using dual‑control vehicles

We offer:
🔹 Competitive remuneration
🔹 6 additional paid leave days (including cultural & birthday leave)
🔹 Free onsite parking
🔹 An inclusive workplace that celebrates diversity
🔹 Meaningful work with strong community impact

Hamilton and the wider Waikato are now under a State of Emergency as a precaution ahead of Cyclone Vaianu, expected later today. This is in place for the next seven days to help keep our communities safe.

With the risk of strong winds, heavy rain, flooding, and possible disruptions, it’s important to be prepared.

What you can do:
• Check in on neighbours, especially those who may need extra support
• Secure loose outdoor items - trampolines etc
• Prepare or check your emergency kit
• Bring pets inside where possible
• Avoid unnecessary travel

Please keep up to date through official channels - Civil Defence Waikato and Hamilton City Council

Take care and look out for one another

🚨 STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARED FOR THE WAIKATO CDEM GROUP AREA

A State of Emergency has been declared for the Waikato CDEM Group Area at 9.32am this morning for a period of seven days, as a proactive step ahead of the arrival of Cyclone Vaianu this evening.

This decision has been made due to the likelihood of significant impacts across the area, including damaging winds, flooding, and disruption to power and transport networks.

Declaring a State of Emergency allows Civil Defence to coordinate the response across Waikato and, if required, use emergency powers to help protect life and property. These powers can include closing roads, evacuating areas, and accessing resources quickly.

At this stage, we do not know whether these powers will need to be used or not. However, declaring early means we can act quickly if conditions worsen, or if the cyclone unexpectedly changes track.

Kia kaha Waikato
