🌸🌸 Recently, Hamilton Combined Community Trust and Nepali Garden NZ Inc. came together to celebrate Everest Day with a wonderful showcase of cultural performances, traditional food, and community spirit.

The event featured authentic food from Nepal, the Philippines, Pacific communities, China, and many others. A special thank you to our community committee members, volunteers, and performers for making this meaningful event such a success.

A big thank you to our Chinese dance group for their wonderful performance. It was their first time performing together, and they did an amazing job.

We were honoured to have Mayor of Hamilton , former Deputy Mayor and MP Martin Gallagher, Harinder Powar (President of the Waikato Multicultural Council), James Kharel (President of Nepali Garden NZ Inc.), Hamilton City Councillor and Chair of the Community Committee Emma Pike - Hamilton City Council, the President of Nepal New Zealand Waikato Friendship, and many friends from different communities join us for this special occasion.

Thank you all for celebrating the diversity, friendship, and unity that make our community so strong.

🌸🌸🌸 Matariki ki Waikato began with a beautiful dawn hautapu ceremony at Hamilton Gardens on Friday, marking the start of a month-long celebration across the Waikato and Waipā regions.

Despite the chilly morning, there was a warm sense of community as people from many cultures came together to celebrate Matariki and the Māori New Year.

A heartfelt thank you to the hosts, organisers, sponsors, performers, mana whenua, and everyone working behind the scenes to make this special celebration possible. Our Chinese dance group was honoured to share our warm wishes for Matariki through a video message.

🌸🌸 Last Sunday, the Tamahere Community Committee organised its second Open Day of the year. Committee members delivered flyers throughout the Tamahere area, inviting residents to attend the event.

The Open Day was well received by the community. Aksel Bech - Waikato Mayor, Chief Executive Craig Hobbs, and Waikato Regional Councillor Noel Smith took part in a Q&A session with residents.

Aksel and Craig spoke about Local Government Reform and the proposed amalgamation programme. Other topics discussed included Vision Tamahere 2075, the Tamahere Drive upgrade (scheduled for January 2027), the Waikato Thoroughbred Racing FastTrack project, NZTA's Southern Links new plan, and the work programme of the Tamahere Mangaone Restoration Trust, as well as Predator Free Tamahere.

Residents had the opportunity to discuss the issues, opportunities, and challenges that will shape Tamahere over the coming decades.

Today is the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival. Traditionally, people celebrate by eating zongzi (sticky rice dumplings). The Chinese community here is celebrating the festival, and the seniors at Caihong Community Centre have made zongzi and organised their own concert.

I am standing for the WEL Energy Trust as an independent candidate because I genuinely want to make a positive difference for our community.

Recently, I attended the Malaysian Food Festival, and it was wonderful to see such a large crowd enjoying the food, culture, and vibrant atmosphere. There were dishes from many different countries, bringing people together to celebrate our diversity and strengthen community connections.

Events like these do not happen by chance. They are made possible by dedicated community leaders and volunteers who generously give their time and energy to organise them. The positive impact they have on our community is truly inspiring. It was also great to see Mayor Tim Macindoe there supporting the event and engaging with the community.

Over the years, the WEL Energy Trust has provided valuable support to community groups and initiatives that bring people together and make our region a better place to live. I have seen firsthand how important this support is. If elected, I would like to help ensure that this support continues and grows, so that more families, community organisations, and local events can benefit.

I believe strong communities are built through connection, inclusion, and supporting one another. Together, we can continue building a stronger, more connected, and more inclusive community for everyone.

Last weekend, while I was putting up some posters, a resident stopped and said, "I love the pink colour of your poster!"

Without missing a beat, I replied, "I'm putting it up for my twin sister!" 😂Everyone burst out laughing, and to top it off, they even gave me a bag of mandarins to take home!

Moments like these remind me how warm, kind, and supportive our community is. I’m truly grateful for all the encouragement and friendliness I've received along the way. ❤️
