As Matariki rises, we pause to mark the Māori New Year ✨

It’s a time shaped by the natural world - the appearance of this star cluster signals a moment to gather, reflect, and reset.

Matariki reminds us to honour the past, give thanks for what we have, and look ahead with hope. Here at our libraries, it’s also a time to celebrate knowledge, stories, and connection across our community.

Have a look on our website for upcoming Matariki events at your library for 2026 https://tinyurl.com/Matariki26 😍

We’re feeling very nostalgic at Hastings Recollect, with these gems from the past that would blow the minds of kids growing up in today’s tap-and-swipe world…

📞 Hunting through your pockets for coins to feed into a payphone, then desperately trying to tell your mum where to pick you up before the money ran out!

💌Sending a postcard to your best friend on holiday… only to beat it home yourself 😂

🗺️And, of course, taking on the ultimate challenge: attempting to refold a paper map back into its original shape. Is there anyone that can actually do that??

Simpler times… but not always easier ones! Take your trips down memory lane at Hastings Recollect

Our poor doggo has come down with the sickies and can't come in! 😭 We wish them a speedy recovery, and a rawhide bone.

We’ll be back next time, though. Thanks for understanding. Woof
