A keen group of students and staff headed to the Hastings Nourished for Nil depot earlier this week to lend a hand at their distribution centre.

Nourished for Nil does an incredible job rescuing quality food and rehoming it to people who need it, helping to reduce waste while supporting our community. We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such a worthwhile cause.

If you'd like to get involved, students are welcome to join our volunteer group, which helps out fortnightly after school on Tuesdays. To sign up, pop into the Front Office and add your name to the list. Nourished for Nil

What a fantastic achievement for our Trades Academy students! Last night's graduation was a celebration of hard work, commitment, and the skills our students have developed throughout the year. We are incredibly proud of each and every one of them.

Our rangatahi brought the energy, talent, and confidence to the stage, and the support from students and staff was just as impressive. We couldn't be prouder.

Year 12 students were lucky enough to have Amanda from MAST Academy come and explain the wide variety of apprenticeships available within the Marine Specialised Technologies industry. Amanda gave insights into what makes a great worker - spoiler alert ... it is the simple things: be on time, be accountable and be a problem solver. Students enjoyed hearing about jobs they had never even considered before.

Last term the Year 7 and 8 class had a Duffy Books in Homes- Role Model Assembly in their class with a visit from musician Kenape Saupese and his family. Kenape is Samoan and was raised in Wellington where he still lives. He has toured internationally with his band Tomorrow People and is now working in the community as a mentor and music healer, as well as making music.

During his visit Kenape impressed us with his singing and keyboard skills through fun singing games and singalongs with the students. Kenape says reading has played an important part in the creative process of writing music, especially with increasing his vocabulary for when writing lyrics. Kenape is an inspiration and a great reading role model for the Year 7 and 8s.

The horticulture students have been learning to propagate plants by seed. Once the seedlings reach the required size they were planted out in the garden beds. John, Musu and the horticulture crew have been harvesting a few crops including red lettuce from a variety called Red Caesar. One of the outcomes from the learning is for the students to take the kai they have grown home to share with whānau.
