Our William Pike Challengers have been out and about making a difference in the wider Hawke’s Bay community!
- πŸ‘ŸπŸ’œ Hawke's Bay Marathon 2026 supplying 82 volunteers (students & parents) at Aid Stations, providing vital hydration, electrolytes, and loud encouragement to marathon participants.
- βœ¨πŸ’› Cranford Hospice Glow Orange Night Walk: Students got creative with face-painting participants and selling glow sticks for a fantastic cause. Our students loved helping out and walked away realising just how good it feels to give back to others. πŸ™Œ

Room 9 is thrilled to share some of their mahi with you all. This week we had an awesome trip to the National Aquarium of New Zealand with the chance to look carefully at the animal enclosures and how the animals are cared for, ahead of our own enclosure construction later in term. The afternoon was spent in stunning sunshine, at the rocky shore on the hunt for any wildlife we could find. We have some art and music work to share also.

Last Friday, HNI had 7 teams participate in the Hastings Rippa Day event. It was awesome to see so many students get involved, work as a team, and give it their all. A massive thanks to the sponsors, umpires and coaches fo making this day possible.

HNI SYMPHONIC BAND

On Sunday 17 May the HNI Symphonic Band and friends performed at the HB Band Festival at Lindisfarne College. The band achieved a SILVER award. They were so lucky to have the help from quite a few ex HNI students now at HNHS.

HNHS two bands also performed and were awarded GOLD.

Congratulations to all the bands.

On Tuesday 12th May, HNI was lucky enough to have two professional basketball players from the Big Barrel Hawks come to teach students about basketball. This of course invited an exciting atmosphere and lots of students wanted to get an autograph from the two players, Jeremy and Alonzo.

First, the students started with an energetic warm up with a game and got split into two groups. One group practised shooting while the other focused on dribbling and passing skills. Each group spent 15 minutes training and then swapped over. Overall, it was a privilege for HNI to get coached by professionals and practice skills while having fun.
