We held the second tour of the Hurunui Hills on Sunday and were fortunate again to be able to do the tour in sparkling weather - no doubts in advance that this would be the case. The variety of topography of the area together with the tracks held the attention of the drivers and the interest of their passengers throughout. Once again, all participants enjoyed the experience and the opportunity to sample the magnificent scenic attributes of this region.

A very important day in many people's calendar is the holding of ANZAC day and today our club was proud to host the local observance together with other community groups, with the service being held in the Waikari Memorial Hall, followed by a walk down the road to the cenotaph for the laying of wreaths and associated formalities.
Lions member Robbie Black did a superb job in coordinating the occasion held on a brilliant Autumn day attended by a large number of participants.
The photographs below depict the service at the cenotaph.

On Sunday 19th April we held the first of our two 4WD tours over the Hurunui Hills through the farm properties of Foxdown, Scargill Hills, Hitchen Hills, and Mt Benger. The forecast leading up to the tour was doubtful, but the day turned up trumps with great weather, excellent trails over varying topography, and perfect conditions for enjoyable touring along with the magnificent scenery viewed from elevated viewpoints. We greatly appreciate the access granted by the farm owners through their impressive properties resulting from which we will be able to give continued support for our community.

Today we transported members of the community to the lookout with a more favourable weather forecast being available for running the event after being cancelled last time. While low cloud was around at the beginning, it cleared to give those present the magnificent views that are the reward of getting up to the lookout.

Balmoral Forest Lookout Ride

The club is once again hosting a trip up to the Lookout on 27th March. This is intended for community members not able to do the walk to the lookout and who will be taken by 4WD vehicles up to the site where food will be provided. Vehicles will leave the car park on Bluffs Rd at 9:30am.

For those who have not been up to this historic site, it has amazing views, and the restored Lookout building with its photo albums showing the history of the Balmoral Forest is well worth visiting.

For catering purposes please let Winton Dalley or Robbie Black (027 3147475) know by Friday 20th March if you intend to come – wives and girlfriends are welcome!
