Are you a school or sports club in need of some funding to get the kids to their sports games?

The Sport NZ Rural Travel fund is now open for applications.

This fund is designed to assist South Taranaki sports clubs and school teams (with young people aged between 5-19 years) pay for transport expenses to regular, local sporting competitions.

If this could help your club or team, click the link below to get an application, or pick up a paper copy at your nearest LibraryPlus.

Applications close at 5pm on Friday 2 October.

South Taranaki District Council’s Natural Environments Fund is now open for applications.

The fund is intended to promote and assist with the protection, restoration and enhancement of areas of significant biodiversity, indigenous vegetation and/or significant habitats of indigenous fauna on private land in the District.

Individuals, trusts, incorporated societies and other groups are eligible to apply, however funded project sites must either already have permanent legal protection status or be prepared to seek legal protection status within twelve months of receiving funding.

Take a look at the hard-working students from Waitotara School, who rolled their sleeves up this week to help plant Stage 2 of the Waverley Town Belt. 💪🌳

With the students' help, around 300 mixed native trees suited to the local ecological district were planted. This new section will eventually be home to approximately 2,000 trees in total.

Most of the trees planted are hardy "nurse crop" species, which will help establish shelter and create the right conditions for other native species to thrive. In a few years' time, we expect to carry out some enrichment planting once these trees have grown and provided additional wind protection.

A huge thank you to the students from Waitotara School for their hard work, enthusiasm, and willingness to get stuck in. You should all be proud of the difference you've made. Well done, crew! 😊

As the school year winds down, Cindy and Sharon are once again inviting our community to help give quality stationery a second life.

By donating unused, good-condition stationery, you can help reduce waste and support local tamariki as they prepare for the 2027 school year.

Thanks to your generosity last year, we collected 107kg of stationery, with 103kg redistributed back into the community. That's hundreds of notebooks, pens, and other essentials finding a new home instead of going to waste.

If you have spare stationery in great condition, simply drop it off at any LibraryPlus centre or the Hāwera Administration Building. Cindy and Sharon will make sure your donations are sorted and passed on to local students and schools who need them.

♻️ A little decluttering for you, a big difference for local whānau. Thank you for helping us keep stationery circular!
