On Friday, we were fortunate to welcome the Energy Roadshow to our school.

Our tamariki demonstrated a fantastic understanding of energy, sharing their ideas about where energy comes from, how it can be generated, and the many ways it is used in our everyday lives.

A highlight of the visit was the opportunity for students to explore energy production firsthand by riding a bike-powered generator to make a delicious smoothie. This hands-on experience helped bring their learning to life and showed how energy can be created through physical effort.

It was a fun and engaging learning experience for all!

Last week Totara participated in the North Island Times Tables Rocks competition. The children were busy recalling their multiplication and division facts as fast as they could for 30 minutes each day of the competition. We had amazing results and lots of fun. Here are the results at the end of the competition... out of 260 schools we came 20th!!!!! 1322 classes participated and we came 120th!!!! (the scores were averaged out to make it fair for little schools like us) and...... Brodie was our top student placing 463 out of 19161!!! Wooooowwwwweeeee Brodie - you sure are a times tables rock star!🤩🤩🤩🥳🤩🤩🤩

Here are our top 3 achievers. Congratulations to you all - your commitment and focus was definately noticed.

What a gorgeous morning we had this morning out in the māra! We are loving how long this weather is staying sunny for and our plants and wildlife are loving it just as much.
We are still getting the gardens prepared for winter! Making sure fruit trees are pruned back nicely, transplanting plants into safer environments for the colder months, mulching and watering. We also made sure we are giving our chicken some love, making sure the run is free of anything that doesn’t belong in there and checking their fencing.

Lots of excitement this morning. We have some new chickens to help us clean up the tradascantia in the ngahere.

To celebrate and remember ANZAC Day tomorrow we made ANZAC cookies for Small Stream Cuisine today. They were lovely and chewy - definately not suitable for sending over to the soldiers but we devoured them! We used this recipe but used butter instead of coconut oil. Enjoy your long weekend and see you all Tuesday.

This morning for STEAM we learnt about ANZAC Day and what the memorials we see around us represent. We explored how cultures in the past made memorials as well as how Maori traditionally showed that an area was tapu. We then used our knowledge to create our own memorials. Our Criteria were: had to have/show an image; had to have a message; had to have height. Here are our amazing creations.
